Far Away but Not Alone
Tails groaned as he tried to get comfy on the wooden floor of Chuck Thorndyke's lab that was situated in the loft of the garage. He would have preferred the warmth and comfort of a bed but that would risk getting caught by Chris's maid or butler and who knows what they would do to a two-tailed fox but he had a feeling that it would be a repeat of what happened to Cream
Speaking of Tails turned so he could see if the young rabbit was getting on better than him. In the darkness he could just make out her form through the blankets, her ears poking out one end. The poor girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Eggman set off the chaos control sending himself, Sonic, Cream and who knows who else within the blast range.
Tails was lucky that he ended up near a junkyard where his plane the Tornado was stranded. Using his mechanical genius he had repaired the damaged plane before flying off to see if anyone else was stranded on the mysterious land they were on. He was fortunate enough to pass by Area 99 when the scientists brought Cream and Cheese in otherwise if what Sonic had told him after they returned to Thorndyke manor they would not have escaped.
Unfortunately because they were from another world they could not stay, let alone sleep, anywhere public without drawing attention so they had to hide out in the Thorndyke's garage. Tails actually liked the lab but the floors were hard even against his fur and the blanket he had underneath him.
After making a mental note to ask for even just a pillow to lie on tomorrow Tails tried to get back to sleep. He was considering counting sheep before he heard Cream softly whimper in her sleep. Looking back at the girl he saw her form shaking lightly as if she was cold. Seeing how he could not get to sleep Tails got up and quietly went over to her. When he touched her shoulder lightly the little rabbit Cream spun round so quick that she nearly whipped Tails in the face with her ears.
"Moma?" she asked clearly thinking all of this was merely a bad dream. Her face fell however when she saw Tails instead proving that it was not a dream. She began to cry unaware that the fox in front of her had sat down beside her until he wrapped an arm round her. She immediately buried her face into his shoulder wrapping her own arms around him as if to say don't leave me.
Tails, seeing as he was going to be uncomfortable for the rest of the night, wrapped his other arm and namesakes around the girl slowly rubbing her back until she stopped crying. As the girl slowly drifted back to sleep he clearly heard her whispered two words.
"Thank you"
Tails just smiled he may be getting less sleep but for the girl in his arms he could easily say it was worth it. Had he looked down he would have seen Cream smiling slightly herself.
