Looking Up
"Aren't you up a little late boy?" Connor knew that voice so well. Cheng Li. In the day her voice was hard and rough, filled with grim experience. But now, late at night when it was dark, dank and quiet, it was soft and kind of soothing to hear, even out of the blue.
"I asked you a question, boy." Connor turned around to face her. He was about the same height as her, even though, when she rescued him, he was shorter. Connor replied "I wanted to look at the stars again. They are nice at a time like this." He turned back to the sky, and asked her "What about you?"
"Bart couldn't find you and neither could Cate"
"Oh." He was kind of dissapointed, but it cleared when he felt her next to him and her hands hung over the ship.
"How's Grace catching up?" she asked again out of the blue. Connor couldn't believe she actually cared more than about her Katanas.
"She's...fine...misses her friend Lorcan though...Do you miss anyone from the Pirate Academy?" he asked her.
"Just this one boy. He was...Never mind, boy. I won't bore you with these past memories." She already had a boy in her life? Wow, he is lucky...Connor shook his head and looked at her.
"You are definitely not boring me. You couldn't possibly bore me..." he said quietly, almost a whisper. He looked at the sea but looked at Cheng Li from the corner of his eye. She had a hint of a smile but wouldn't divulge further into her past or her "friend"
"Connor, which constellation do you like the most?"
"Connor? You always call me 'boy' What changed?"
"Nothing. Which do you like best,...boy?"
"I resent that...I'm almost as tall now anyway" he turned completely toward her. "I like the Huntress one. It was made about 6 centuries ago...Rumor has it that, Artemis, godess of the moon made the constellation when her liutenant died in battle fighting against her father Atlas...Artemis and another demigod were captured by Atlas and the Hunters of Artemis and some demigods came to the rescue."
"You don't like the Hercules one?" she asked, Connor shook his head a no.
He asked "You're familiar with the Greek gods and goddesses?" She nodded. He asked "Which one's you're favorite?" She replied edging a little closer "Athena..." He looked at her "Really? I thought you'd be the Ares type. But, I guess both goddesses put a blessing on you especially." She looked confused and turned slightly toward him. His heart was beating wildly as she looked him in the eye. He said quietly "Aphrodite..too..."
She leaned in slightly, her eyes still on his, and he leaned in and their lips crashed into each other half way. Connor's body was on fire and his body nearly exploded when she put her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kept her close. THey broke apart for air and she put her chin on his shoulder and hugged him.
That's when Connor thought, 'maybe it's worth living here, on this ship, just because she's here with me. Just because Cheng Li is here in my arms.' And he knew she was thinking the same thing.
