"You know, Elizabeth, this really isn't how I'd imagined our last night here to be," John said softly, turning around fully to face the woman that was laid out beside him on her side, sprawled out across three chairs. Her head lay in his lap.

"Yeah you know what me neither." She sighed, reaching up to touch her cheek gently, wincing. "It's your fault." Elizabeth muttered.

"Mine?" He looked hurt. She moved onto her back, looking up at him. "You know I wouldn't have done…"

"I know."

"I'm sorry."

"I know." She smiled up at John, "it's not too bad. I'll just have a bit of a bruise…"

"Liz'beth," he drawled, "we have to make sure. I can't take you home with a broken nose or something, Carson'll kill me."

"You know if you weren't so…" she paused grinning, "good-looking, none of this would have happened. John smiled, curling a strand of her hair around his finger.

"Well, I'm sorry for being so good-looking, Elizabeth." He laughed. Her face turned serious for a moment.

"That girl was all over you John."

"I was there with you, Elizabeth."

"She had her hands on your ass. She was practically drooling."

"You didn't need to start a bar brawl." John stated; Elizabeth scowled.

"I didn't start a bar brawl, I merely decide she couldn't have what was mine." She pouted for a second, before adding "And she started it."

"Is that a hint of jealously I detect in your voice, Doctor?"

"What if it is, Colonel?" They stared at each other for a few seconds before John smiled and looked away.

"I wonder if I dropped a few well known names…" John began.

"No," Elizabeth muttered, turning her head to rest her cheek on his thigh.

"… I might be able to get you seen quicker. Then we can get back to our night." He grinned, and she glared.

"You know you are impatient."

"You know you are beautiful."

"Even with the bruised cheek and black eye?"

"Even with the bruised cheek and black eye." He repeated, leaning forward and softly kissing the side of her mouth, he felt her smile against his lips.

"God, I do lov…" Elizabeth started, but was interrupted by the nurse calling them.

"Elizabeth Sheppard?"
