Brain Damage: Prologue
"Jack! Stop!"
Jack ran down the alleyway, the bat hot on his tail. The knife had slipped from his bloody fingers. Escaping from Arkham was no small feat, but he'd managed with just one knife and a lease a few dead guards in his wake. Killing them hadn't been the plan, but he had to take out whoever was in his way. He wanted to ditch the bloody prison-like uniforms inmates at Arkham were forced to were, but he soon learned that escaping from the Batman was a more pressing matter than a wardrobe change.
His feet splashed in puddles of stagnant water left on the streets after the rain a few hours before. He nearly slipped as he turned into another side street.
"Jack, stop! Kid!" The older man's voice echoed from behind him.
Jack's determined eyes looked back at the Batman for a second before he turned away to keep running. That lost second was enough for him to almost run right into a thug who stood in his way. Jack fell backwards as the thug pushed him in the chest.
"Don't do it!"
Jack beared his teeth in defiance as a gun was cocked, aimed at his forehead.
"Hold it! Don't fire!" The Batman sent out some sort of weapon, that flew towards the thug's arm.
But it was too late. BANG! The bullet ripped through Jack's skull.
The thug cried out as the bat-shaped blades hit his arm and he dropped the gun.
The Batman lowered himself down from the fire escape, grabbing the wounded thug and looking fearfully down at the young man laying on the ground.
Was he dead?
