Hellsing

Book 2

Daughter of Hellsing

Chapter I

She tried to suck in a breath, but found she could not. Instead, icy water flooded her lungs, making her gag and gasp, bringing in more water. It was cold, so cold, she couldn't feel anything, couldn't see anything but icy blackness. "Help me!" She thought desperately. "Someone please help me! I don't want to die!" She was sinking, and as things began to fade away, she began to accept it, began to let herself drift off into the nothingness that was coming up to meet her.

--

Elizabeth sat in her room at the windowsill, looking out at the rain falling in buckets from the sky. A tap at the door caught her attention, and she turned to see Walter standing in the doorway, smiling.

"Happy birthday Miss Elizabeth." He said warmly to her. "It is a big day for you. How does it feel to be a young woman?"

Elizabeth rose from her sitting position and smiled back.

"I don't feel any different Walter." She replied. "I never do."

"By the end of the day I assure you, you will. But you should get ready. Sir Integra wants to see you."

Elizabeth nodded, and Walter left. She walked over to her bed where she had laid out some suitable clothes to wear for the day. Her fifteenth birthday. She had grown and changed immensely since she had come to the Hellsing Estate three years ago. For one thing, she certainly didn't look like a little girl anymore. For another, she was having horrific nightmares she never even considered when she first arrived at Hellsing.

But she pushed those thoughts aside and dressed, noting how her tastes in clothes had changed as well. She still wore skirts and other proper attire when there was no need for her and she could focus on her studies or barricade herself in her room with a good book, but she didn't wear them on a regular basis. That place was taken up by jeans, boots, and typical teenage shirts, to include logo t-shirts and form-fitting black t-shirts. Today she wore a pair of blue jeans, combat boots, and a "Disturbed" t-shirt. It felt like one of those days, and she reasoned that if she was going to be going out today, she would blend better.

Her instincts didn't lead her wrong. Integra, director of the Hellsing Organization, and her adopted mother, wished her a happy birthday, then immediately began prepping her for the day's work. It was, however, not what she expected.

"I'm sending you on your first recon mission." Integra told her, pulling a file from her desk. "Alucard and Seras will accompany you. You leave tonight."

Elizabeth took the file Integra handed to her, and she began looking through it. It held details of a low-level freak who was running rampant in Crofts End, Bristol. The freak had already taken down three families on a bloody rampage, and didn't look as though he was going to stop.

"I will see to it this mission is carried out." Elizabeth said formally, standing up. Integra nodded, and Elizabeth excused herself from the room. She would indeed make sure the freak never harmed another soul again. Memories of the night a few years ago when she had been tortured by a vampire still haunted her, and even though she had remained at heart the kind girl she had always been, it left a taint on her that made her hate every vampire but two. And it was one of those vampires she made her way down into the labyrinthine cellar to see.
