Golden Eyes
Zuko sat on a bench in a garden, watching his youngest daughter, Katara, dancing threw the apple trees. She was waving her arms and danced in her bare feet. She smiled at him before dancing just beyond his sight, so he turned his attention to his oldest daughter, Zutara, who was lying on her stomach, her feet facing the sky, one arm lay relaxed over the other, and the other arm held a book.
Azula, the middle daughter, on the other hand wasn't doing anything even remotely close to her sisters; she stood on the water's edge, her arms out stretched, water rising from the blue pool. He sighed, if only Katara could see her daughters now.
"Zutara, stop arguing with your sister," Queen Katara yelled over the balcony to the two fighting girls. The sisters looked up at their mother, then at each other, then back to their mother again.
"Yes mother," the sisters yelled, knowing better then to argue with they're pregnant mother.
"Those girls fight like cats and dogs," Katara said shaking her head as she walked back over to him. He smiled as he laid his hand on Katara's extremely pregnant belly.
"I mean you think they could— OW!" she cried out. Even though Zuko already had two girls he always forgot that he wasn't supposed to panic every time she went into labor.
And 42 exhausting hours later Zuko held his youngest daughter in his arms. He smiled as they handed him the baby, but he was confused. Why did the healers have sad faces after a princess was just born?
"My lord, the queen," he choked as he tried to get the words out "she…wouldn't stop bleeding and…" he didn't need to finish. Zuko handed the baby girl to one of the maids and ran toward Katara's room.
"KATARA!" he franticly yelled as he burst into the room. He didn't even look at the healers he knocked down to get to her. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" he yelled as he franticly shuck her limp body. "KATARA! KATARA! KATARA!" he screamed as he shuck her again.
"Dad dad STOP IT!" 11 year old Zutara yelled grabbing his shoulders and pulling him away. She let go as he slid down the bed frame, tears running down his face. Zutara hugged him. Finally she pulled away and took his hand. She led him to Azula who was holding her new baby sister.
"Daddy, what's her name?" the 4 year old asked.
"Her name is… Katara sweetie," he said as he looked at the young girl.
"Daddy, daddy," Zuko shuck himself at the sound of his youngest daughter's angel voice. "Can we go home I'm tired?"
"Yes honey, we can," he said as he picked up the waiting four year old. Azula and Zutara got up and walked over to him.
When they arrived at the castle what or who they saw made their eyes light up. They saw…
"AUNT AZULA!" Azula yelled running over and hugging her aunt.
"It's wonderful to see you again Zula," Azula laughed as she encircling the younger girl in a hug.
"UNCLE SOKKA!" Zutara yelled at the same time her sister yelled their aunt's name. She ran and hugged her uncle with a large smile on her face.
"How's our angel?" Azula and Sokka asked as they smiled at the sleeping girl in Zuko's arms.
He only smiled at them and carried his youngest daughter up the stairs and over to her bedroom. He laid his daughter onto her bed. She opened her sleeping eyes. Her golden eyes stared back up at him. She was the only one of the three daughters to have gold eyes and for that he treasured her, he treasured her for her gold eyes; he treasured Azula because she was her mother all the way, and he treasured Zutara because she looked just like him. So he kissed her forehead and he watched her shut her beautiful golden eyes.
