Day 1
Prompt - Soulmate
Pairing - Setzer/Celes

"Do you believe in the possibility of soul mates?" Setzer queried, raising an eyebrow and casting a sideways glance in her direction.

Out here, on the deck of the Falcon surrounded by an endless sea of stars, the possibilities seemed endless, and there was always a chance she might say yes. Or, at the very least, he hoped she would.

Celes snorted. "No, certainly not."

Well, so much for that.

"Where I come from, we are taught to rely on ourselves," Celes continued, rubbing salt in the wound she'd opened with her harsh response. "We don't believe in soul mates, fate or Lady Luck." She paused, looking out across the deck at the moon rising in the east. "I doubt if most of the people I've worked with even have a soul."

Setzer sighed and leaned against the railing. This conversation was obviously going no where. He was about to turn around and head below deck when he felt her fingers curl around his hand, the chill of her magic sending shivers down his spine.

He lifted his chin and found himself gazing into the bluest eyes he'd ever seen, cold and shining, like shards of sapphire in the moonlight.

"I don't believe in those things," she said, her voice no more than a whisper in the dark. "I believe in us."
