The life that they had now was supposed to be a dream paradise where they could live freely and carefree from the Flare that had threatened humanity for too long. Instead, Thomas felt like he was trapped inside a world completely different from his own. He was glad to be done with all the responsibility and pain that he had been feeling since entering the maze, but he couldn't quit thinking about all the lives lost for no purpose. Everybody who had given up their own life for the safety of his... it just didn't seem fair that they weren't here.

The small village Minho had organized and constructed was nothing like the cube they had been placed with in the maze Thomas thought. That was where their home truly was.

"That was a prison, " he muttered to himself, though he couldn't deny those had been the best days of his life; running the narrow, ivy weaved walls that seemed to grow taller everyday with Minho and mapping out the corridors as to figure out some clue that seemed impossible before Thomas got there. Then she woke up.

He stirred the memories from his mind as he walked back. Wasn't this place a prison too? They were stuck on a remotely small island with everything they needed just like in the maze minus the huge sliding walls. Was this just another test set up by WICKED? They had already tricked them then tricked them again. Who's to say they weren't watching them right now with little bugs and waiting for them to get comfortable to make their move. Make all the resources go away until they were forced to explore beyond the island.

When Thomas returned, he didn't dare speak his opinion to Minho. He knew how sensitive he was about their old homestead. He had lost most of his greatest friends. But there was an idea forming in his head... something he had to tell no matter who it was.

"Ahh!" he screamed, as Brenda popped out from behind a tree grabbing his arm

"Hey what's up? You look a little on the edge," she said, imitating his scared face then laughing.

"Ya well-" Thomas paused. "Hang on, were you following me?"

Her face flushed violet. "Well you'd been gone all day so I went looking for you," she tried. "You looked kinda worried so I left you alone."

"Oh," he said, hoping his face wasn't as red as it felt. "Well I wanted to talk to someone about this. I think I figured out why we were sent here."

Here it goes, Thomas thought miserably, now she's going to think I left behind my mind in the maze.

Surprisingly her face changed to a mixture of curiosity and fear. "Me too. I've been thinking about it and it just doesn't make any since. I mean they couldv'e made another Flat right? Gotten away too? Why would WICKED send us here and stay behind when there is nothing?" she asked, her voice quavering on the last word.

Thomas looked right at her and before he said the next words, Brenda already knew what they were. "It's another trial
