Hey, everyone! This is my first fanfic, so please don't be too mean. I got the idea for the title name from "The Shining Beacon" when Blake explains her book to Ruby.

Chapter 1
"Hmmm… I wonder where Weiss is," the fearless leader of Team RWBY asked herself, noticing the heiress was nowhere to be seen as Professor Oobleck began his class. She's never late for class she thought to herself. "Yang, Blake, have you guys seen Weiss anywhere?" she asked her teammates.
"Sorry sis, haven't seen her," Yang replied, soon returning to her nap.
"I haven't seen her recently. Weiss probably has a good reason for not being here Ruby. She wouldn't skip class unless it was urgent," Blake replied, trying to console her friend.
Trying to think of a reason why Weiss wasn't there, Ruby zoned out through the whole class, completely missing the lesson and homework assignments given to the students by their coffee addict of a teacher. It wasn't until Yang began to shake her rapidly that she snapped out of it.
"Ruby, didn't you hear me? Class is over," Yang said, a worried look for her little sister on her face. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just really worried about Weiss," Ruby answered. She got up from her seat and followed Yang out of the classroom.
After finishing the rest of their classes for the day, Blake, Yang, and Ruby returned to their dorm room. They opened the door, walking in on something they never thought possible. Weiss, sitting on her bed with her scroll, eyes full of tears. Ruby ran over to the distraught girl, embracing her with her arms, giving her a shoulder to cry on. Now overcoming her shock, Yang became furious. She would find whoever made Weiss cry and beat the snot out of them. Blake stopped her before she could march out of the room and go on a rampage.
"R-Ruby," Weiss muttered into her partner's ear.
"What is it Weiss?" Ruby asked, trying to help her friend in need.
"Winter's dead," she managed to say, beginning to cry again.
