Author's Note: Hi, guys! Here's another one-shot for our favorite couple ever- Zero and Yuki! It takes place when they were younger, so they have the whole preteen crush/just friends thing going on. Adorable, I know. Well, we all know I don't own VK or any of the characters. Please enjoy, please review!
I didn't usually get this nervous. Tonight, however, was an unwanted exception.
I'd been dancing since I was three; I was thirteen now. Tonight was the big recital, and thousands of people were in the audience. But only one of them mattered.
The big crowds didn't faze me; I'd never messed up a performance in my life. But this time, I had a dance solo almost three minutes long. And Zero was here.
(No, he wasn't the one that mattered… Just hush, ok?)
"Do I look okay?" I asked Ribbi, the girl who stood next to me in the first dance. She rolled her eyes.
"Of course, Cross-san. You're the prettiest girl here."
"Thanks." I blushed at the compliment. I was always so insecure among these girls; I was the smallest dancer in the class.
I few minutes later, we were ushered on stage by the stage hand. I found myself in position and the curtain rose. As soon as it was up my eyes scanned the crowd for Zero.
When I found him, our eyes met, and he smiled. (Shocker, right?) That was encouragement enough.
The first number began, classic ballet, and we all danced our hearts out, lost in the music. The number ended without error.
Then my solo began.
I began, timidly at first, the steps almost unperceivable from the audience's view. But then I remembered Zero's smile, and my dance grew bolder. I danced better than I ever had in rehearsal, ending flawlessly with a pirouette that spun down and up and again. It made me incredibly dizzy, but it was worth it.
It seemed like only seconds until the recital was over. As soon as it was, Zero appeared at the edge of the stage, and I flew into his arms.
He was the first to speak. "You were amazing, the best one up there. Here, I have something for you." He released me from his hug and pulled out something I hadn't noticed before.
The flowers were red roses-my favorite. "Mmmm, thank you," I breathed.
"There's a card, too."
"Oh." And indeed there was:
"To my tiny dancer-
You're the most beautiful girl on the stage.
Love, Zero."
