A/N: Wow, has it really been THAT long, lol. I finally got some time to put something out, I wrote it like two years ago, years after first seeing the movie and reading the short story, it's not a slash!fic per say... it's a poem based on the fanfic series 'White Picket Fences and Apple Trees' by FlatOutCrazy along with the first few pages of the actual short story Brokeback Mountain by Annie Prolux. Go read the aforementioned fanfic and the real short story, they're both wonderfuly, amazingly good, trust me. Enjoy.

P.S. It's in Ennis' POV, if you read the short story, you'd catch that rather quickly, lol.

Dreaming of Picket Fences

The rustling autumn wind woke me from my slumber,

Kissing as my trailer with the fury of summer thunder.

The dream I was roused from was truly one surreal,

A world I wish I had not given up,

A world I wished to feel.

The dream was full of sunshine, with ne'er a cloud above,

Shining on a house made with care, time and love.

The picket fence that lines it is sturdy and white,

That ever creaks or slams in the windy summer night.

A voice echoes through the air,

Cheerful and caring.

A man stands at the gate,

Ever kindly staring.

I go to him and take his hand,

I kiss his blushing cheek.

Whispering me sweet nothings,

His soft voice makes me weak.

But the autumn winds whip with an attitude intense,

So no more sun, no more kisses,

No more picket fence.
