He sighed. He had to tell her.
"Betty??" he called.
"Coming Daniel." He heard and within a second, she was there with her pad and pencil, ready to write.
"You don't need that right now Betty." He said. Confusion lay on her face as she set them on his desk.
"Betty I'm about to tell you something that will change your friendship with me: It may be for the worst or it could be good. You might hate me after I say what I'm about to say." Daniel said.
Betty smiled. "I could never hate you Daniel and I'll always be your friend, tell me." Betty said.
"I've fallen in love with you, Betty." He said. "I love you more than I do anyone else." For a second, Daniel could not read her face to know her reaction, but after a second, she smiled widely.
"I love you too Daniel." She said. "But how could fall in love with me?? I'm ugly-"
"You're beautiful, Betty." He said. "No matter what anyone else thinks."
"But, I have glasses and braces, and I'm-"
"Stop putting yourself down. You're a great, smart, beautiful person." He said. "On the inside and the outside." She smiled.
"Thank you Daniel." Betty said.
"You're welcome." Daniel said. "Want to be my girlfriend??"
"But Daniel what about the press-"
"I don't care what they think or what things they say because I love you Betty." He said and kissed her. Betty's cheeks immediately turned dark red.
"Yes, Daniel." She said after he broke the kiss. "I would love to be your girlfriend."
They both smiled. Around the corner, Claire Meade watched the happy scene and took a picture as they kissed.
"Finally you're happy." Claire whispered and disappeared out of sight.
