He had promised himself never again, never again would he let the boy back into his heart after the way he had shattered it just weeks before. Yet here he was staring at the pale green ceiling of his room with the boy curled up next to him. Their skin still glistening from the act committed just moments before. One look of need from the boy, a need of him, and the boy had him in his pocket, his grasp, and in his heart once more. For a few hours his aching heart had been soothed and a glimmer of happiness had come in its tow. The reality of the situation began crashing down upon him in a wave of despair. For the boy he was just a release and nothing more. Never had he been loved by him as he had once assumed but merely a way to shed away a day's stress. He slowly got up and dressed in his best attire, combing his hair to perfection. On his way past the writing desk, he grabbed a quail, ink, and a scrap of parchment. He silently left his chamber. He traveled through the castle like a wisp of wind, no one noticed or cared about the act he was about to commit. He reached the astronomy tower and his gaze quickly directed it's self towards its wide window. It was a clear starless night and the men shown overhead, a candle was not necessary to see. He lowered himself against one of the cold stone walls and sat on the floor. Drawing his writing utensils nearer he prepared to write one last poem. When he was finished he wrote his name with a flourish across the bottom and slowly got up. Going over to the window he took one last look of the castle grounds, imagining what he had thought the first day he had seen them when he was a first year. With a deep breath he jumped out of the window.
The boy woke up to find himself alone, as he dressed he felt a sudden odd desire to venture up to the astronomy tower. When he arrived the air was still. The kind of still only death seemed to be able to muster. He looked down and saw a note with a familiar scrawl on the front. He opened the note.
I loved you, I trusted you
And you took those feelings
And swiftly replaced them with those of betrayal
And heartbreak
Ye t time and time again
You came back
And I accepted you with open arms
Because I always kept that little glimmer of hope
That you would be mine for good
But just like all the other times
You left me broken
Worst of all
After everything I still love you
With all the heart and soul have left to give
But this can't go on
A mans soul can only be ripped like this for so long
Before it simply breaks
I know you won't end this
So I have
Forever Loving You
Severus Snape
A lone tear slid down Harry Potter's cheek as he walked over to the window already sure of what he would find. As he leaned over the window sill, there crumbled on the ground was Severus. He slowly slid down the wall putting his head in his hands. Rough sobs began to grip his body as he realized what he had lost. The one man he truly loved.
