One month. It had been one month since Yugi was in Egypt. Yugi played a friend in a duel. Yugi defeated that friend, but by winning his friend left him. Yugi hadn't been the same. He was not Atem. He lost more duels than he won. He was so spaced out he didn't even see Tea's hand in front of him.
" Hello, Yugi. Yugi!"
Yugi jumped. " I'm paying attention, sir."
" First of all no you're not. Second: class hasn't even started. "
" Sorry. Guess I've just been a little depraved. I only had two hours of sleep last night. I kept sitting in the chair looking through my cards to see if Atem would speak to me like he used to when he wanted to talk about his past. I still can't hear him."
It was hard seeing Yugi so depressed. He was the same shy boy he used to be. The once cheerful side of him was gone. Tea was also not herself. She was in love with the other Yugi. Since the day the other Yugi saved her from a prison escapee she was in love with him.
" The pharaoh—sorry, I mean Atem wouldn't want you to ignore your bedtime, Yugi."
" I know. But I still keep thinking maybe he can still come back to us. Why didn't I follow him?"
" If it's an constellation I have dreams about him to. I have dreams about what it would be like if you lost. I dreamed about dancing on stage with him watching me. But when I open my eyes I realize it's just a dream. But I realized maybe we shouldn't try to keep Atem for ourselves. Then we would feel bad for him because of how selfish we acted."
" You're right, Tea. Atem's in a better place. It's not like we're never going to see him again. One day I'll met him again and tell him how much I've progressed as a duelist."
" Don't forget about me, Joey, and Tristan. They're going to want to see Atem just as well. I'm sure Kaiba would also like to see him. You know how hotheaded he is. He won't rest until he's beaten the pharaoh once and for all—"
" Hey Yug, check it out." Joey and Tristan appeared over Yugi's desk. Both of them smiled as they smacked a magazine on his desk. The cover of the magazine had a woman wearing nothing but a swimsuit. "Doesn't the girl in this picture have the perfect body? What I wouldn't give to use my Lucky Right Arm on her."
" Hey, perversion is not allowed in school you perverts!"
" Oh relax, Tea," Joey said. " It's not like we're hurting anyone. Besides, it's natural for boy's Yug's age to want to study more about the opposite sex. Isn't that right, Yug?"
" Uh, I guess."
" See. There's no harm in it."
" Yeah. Just like there's no harm in taking a picture of your sister and hanging it on my wall," Tristan said.
" You did what? How dare you take a picture of Serenity!"
" But you said it's natural for boy's to be interested in members of the opposite sex."
" With my sister! I thought you and me had a deal, Tristan."
" I'm not sure I want to ask but what kind of deal is that?" Tea said.
" It's none of us are allowed to date the other's sister," Joey said.
" You agreed on this Tristan?" Yugi asked.
" It was before I even met Joey's sister."
" When my mom and dad got a divorce we were both separated from each other. I met Tristan after that happened."
" And I didn't want him laying hands on my elder sister," Tristan said. " You know how Joey is."
" Yeah," Tea giggled. " Some call him the Underdog Duelist."
" Don't call me a dog!"
Tea, Joey, and Tristan leaped to their desks when they heard the sound of the door open. Their middle-aged male teacher walked in. The teacher walked behind his desk. The teacher waited until everyone stopped talking before he spoke.
" Everyone, please take your seats. Now, as some of you might know we have a new student coming in today."
" A new student?" The student's said to each other.
" Hey, did you know there was going to be a new student, Tristan?" Joey asked.
" No way man. I'm just as surprised as you are," Tristan said.
" I hope it's a girl," Tea said. " A short girl."
" Why?" Tristan asked.
" Because if she'll be just like Yugi. Only I can put make-up on her, introduce her to boys, and take pictures of her in cute dresses. Eeeeek. I'm so excited."
" I think you need to have hormonal therapy, Tea."
" I just hope it's a duelist," Yugi said. " I haven't been doing so well playing but I'm sure I'll get better if I have someone to face."
" Now there's something you need to know about this transfer student. He is a foreigner."
" A foreigner?" The students gasped. " Here?"
" Hey Tristan, how come we've never had foreigner's at this school before?" Joey asked.
" I don't know. Remember the last student that transferred here? Bakura?" Tristan replied.
" Yeah. Speaking of which where is he?" Tea asked.
" He's at home," Yugi said. " After we placed all seven of the puzzle pieces together Bakura hasn't been the same. I think he's just given up on his future."
" This person here comes straight from Canada. We did an altitude test to see how fluent he was in our language. His fluency seems very good but it would be best not to ask him hard questions. Everyone, meet Mr. Nuo Yusui."
The doors opened. All the students were quiet when the foreign student Nuo Yusui walked in. Nuo had foreign skin. His was brighter, more pinkish than their skin. Nuo was wearing the traditional place uniform with the white collar. Nuo made a strange sign. He had two fingers pressed together as he spread the second and third one apart—the Vulcan sign from Star Trek. No one in the class knew what stupor Nuo was doing.
" What is this a classroom or the holocaust? Seriously, my name is Nuo and I would appreciate it if you would please take care of me. Not that any of you care. I have something to say to you tan guy with the pointy haircut."
" Is he talking to me?" Tristan asked.
" I have two words for you. Willem Dafoe.I'm guessing your favorite food Okonomiyaki and your least favorite food is Natto."
" What does he mean by that? And how does he know what I eat?"
" Cool it, Tristan," Joey said. " We can smell what you eat from your breath. The guy's just trying to toy with your mind."
" Blonde. Blonde. Hey, you there with the blond hair."
" I know he is not talking to me."
" You seem familiar. You look like the kind of guy who likes steak and shrimp. Yūjō. The kind of guy who likes playing with Warrior cards. Anyways, I am asked to tell you a little about myself. Now I know people make mistakes. Trust me I make at least three mistakes every day. But I want you to know I've accomplished more in my fifteen years alive than some of you in your entire life despite my nine o'clock bed time. I'm not here to make friends, or further my studies, or any of that jabber. I'm here for my own reasons."
" Thank you, Mr. Yusui."
" Thank you menial teacher."
" Thank you for noticing. I'm menial teacher of the year. Please take your seat."
