A Lawyer and a Farmer: Chapter One

It was late afternoon when Lightning Goldenrod Williams stepped off the train in the quiet little town of Ponyville. "Ugh, 'Go take a vacation' they said, 'You need a break' they told me, well, I don't see why I should have come here in the first place. I can't wait for the next two weeks to end so I can go back to Canterlot," the only sixteen year old lawyer in Equestria said to herself as she looked around the small, and all but busy train station for someone to ask for directions. "Oh, there's somepony over there, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask him," Lightning said to herself and walked over to the red coated, orange manned stallion she saw. 'Alright Lightning, no need to be shy, just ask for directions to the Twin Hoof Inn,' Lightning thought as she walked over to the stallion.

"Excuse me, sir?" she said to the stallion, luckily loud enough to make him turn around. "Eeyup?" he said in a low, country-like voice. "I was wondering if you could give me directions to the Twin Hoof Inn," Lightning said with her slight Canterlot accent that the stallion picked up on right away. "Eeyup," he said again, clearly a stallion of few words. He looked to the side and grabbed a map off the receptionist's desk and opened it. "You just take the road going straight from this platform to the center of town, take the second left passed Sugarcube Corner, and then it's the third building after that," the stallion said in a slow, country accented voice pointing to a building labeled 'Sugarcube Corner' on the map and then another labeled 'Twin Hoof Inn' three buildings away. "Oh, thank you mister…" Lightning said, not knowing the helpful stallion's name. "The name's Big Macintosh, and there's no need to thank me miss…" the stallion said, not knowing Lightning's name. "Oh, Lightning, Lightning Goldenrod Williams to be more precise," she said. "Ms. Williams, have a good day now, you hear," Big Macintosh said and walked away.

Lightning followed Big Macintosh's directions and managed to get to the inn fairly quickly. "Finally, I can rest. Rest, ugh, I'd rather be at the office actually getting something done," Lightning said out loud to herself as she walked in and went to the desk to get her room key. "Hello, welcome to the Twin Hoof Inn, how may I help you?" the colt at the desk said to Lightning in a friendly tone. "Um, I called in for a room about two days ago. The reservation should be under the name Lightning G. Williams," Lightning told him and he checked the computer. "Oh yes, room 25," the colt said and handed Lightning a room key with the number 25 on it. "I hope you enjoy your stay here in Ponyville," he said as Lightning walked to the room.

After she entered the room, Lightning decided to check her E-mail and see if there was anything important that she had received. "Ugh, nothing on the case, all of these are wishing me a good time here," Lightning said as she deleted all the E-mails and went to lie down. "Might as well get some rest," she said and went to sleep.
