Unbelievable
The rattle of his skateboard wheels against the pavement sounded to me like the hippest music I'd heard in a long time."You got it kiddo!" I shouted after him.
He turned to look at me from over his shoulder, and yeah...that wasn't the smartest move. I just let go of a sigh as a tiny smile worked it's way onto my face. "That would be your first crash Jake."
He looked up at me from the pavement with a half dazed expression on his face. "Dad...I uh..." I smiled wider down at him. "Yeah it happens sometimes, even to an old pro like me. But hey you'll get it buddy."
He nodded as he stood and brushed the black hair from his eyes.
"Okay, I'll keep trying!" I reached to straighten his helmet before giving him the all clear.
"Just think, today the sidewalk, tomorrow the half-pipe!" The thought of it made him grin from one ear to the other. I had to admit, as I watched him dart down the sidewalk I couldn't help but feel a little, uh what's the word, maybe mellow?
"And what's this about a half-pipe?"
A smirk played over me as I turned to see Sissi raising a suspicious eyebrow at me. I thew my hands defensively in front of me.
"Well you know me, I love to be the encouraging type."
She smiled a little playfully. "Don't I know it Odd... Just don't encourage him into a broken leg."
I laughed. "Yes ma'am!" She teasingly rolled her eyes at me before she crossed her arms and turned to surveying Jake like the mother hen she was at heart.
"Oh no wait what's this!?" I suddenly shouted as I pointed to her. "I think you're greying in real time!" She shoved me in the shoulder as I started to laugh my head off. "Not on your life Della Robbia! But it is amazing considering isn't it!?
I wiped a few tears from my eyes as I tried to stall my fit of laughter.
"Oh come on Sissi you know I've grown on you over the years. A guy like me is got to be hard to find, I mean a great sense of humor, a charming personality and..." I flexed my bicep. "All these unbelievable muscles!"
She stared at me silently for a few seconds before she burst into laughter. I frowned. "Hey I was being serious..."
After catching her breath she smiled. "Oh now you're being serious for once?" I nodded. "Yeah and besides, if you didn't think I was all that and a bag of chips, then you wouldn't have married me."
She looked into my eyes while her face went playfully sincere.
"Yeah I know...that's what scares me..."
