A/N: I do not own RENT

"You're what?" Maureen exclaimed as she backed away from him.

"I'm going to ask Allison to marry me."

"Why? Do you love her?" she asked incredulously as she masked her pain and hurt with anger.

"No, but this is a good opportunity for me!" he shouted.

"A good- What the hell Benny?! So what you're going to be a sell out? To this… this woman? Be her boy toy? Her man whore? What about me? Huh?"

"This has nothing to do with you, Maureen!" He shouted and she refused to flinch at the harshness in his tone.

"Nothing to do with me?" she seethed. "It has everything to do with me! What about these last months? Are you just going to pretend they didn't happen?"

"It was just sex Maureen. That's what we said. No strings attached. Mind blowing, earth shattering sex… but still…. just sex."

"Really?" the hurt in her voice could not be masked and he resisted the urge to take her in his arms, promise her the world and then give it to her.

"Y-yes, Mo. It was just that." He turned away from her and cursed his voice for cracking on him.

"See!" she shouted as she gave up the fight with her tears and let them stream down her face, making her voice crack. "See! It meant more to you too! What happened to us sneaking around, having sex, and cuddling until we both fell asleep? Was that a lie? Because if it was, it was only on your part! I trusted you! You are the only man I have ever trusted to hold me when I was sleeping. The only man I have ever trusted to be there when I woke up! I loved you! Sure I wanted you sexually from the moment I first saw you, but I fell in love with you! I don't do that! I don't 'fall in love'! But I did… with you! And now you're going off and marrying Muffy?"

"Her name is All-"

"I don't give a damn what her name is Benny!" she paused trying to control her anger before whipping back around to him. "Was that all I was to you? A piece of ass to get off on every night because your girlfriend couldn't satisfy you?" suddenly the hurt was back. "Was that all I was to you?" her voice was so small.

"No it wasn't, I loved you," he grabbed her face in his hands. "I do love you."

"But you love money more," she spat as she pulled out of his hands and stalked to the other side of the room.

Pausing as he began to shut the door behind him as he left, he turned his head over his shoulder looking at her with an almost broken look on his face. "I really do love you, Mo."

"Go to hell!" and with those three venomous words came the end of Maureen's love for Benjamin Coffin III. In that moment, all of the love her heart once held for him diminished and was replaced with hate. After all, the line between love and hate is very thin.
