Listening To Mozart

It was their third time going out together in the public eye of the Enterprise and things still felt a bit awkward. The two had been attracted to each other for some time, but never acted on it due to the fear of how others might perceive it. When they finally decided to express their feelings toward each other, they wanted to keep things quiet for a while. Not to mention that the two were concerned as to how it would affect Wesley. As a result, they wanted to see how he would react and how things would go in general before going public.

"Mom, I think it's great. Commander Riker and I were wondering how long it would take the two of you to finally do something," the boy smiled. "In fact, we all were ready to start placing bets."

Beverly smiled as she remembered the time she first told her son about the relationship she was beginning to start with the captain.

Just then, Jean-Luc leaned towards her. She could hear him trying to subtly take in the scent of her hair as he began to whisper, "I think you'll enjoy this, Beverly."

"Really?"

"Oh yes," he mused. "I do so adore listening to Mozart and Mr. Data has become quite good at playing the violin. He's created a program that allows him not just to learn the technical aspects of playing the instrument, but one that allows him to show expression and feeling while he plays. It's quite a complicated algorithm."

"Well, I can't wait."

At that moment, the lights dimmed and everyone clapped. Data walked onto the platform set up for his performance for the people on board the Enterprise. He bowed, lifted the violin to his chin and began to play.

Suddenly, Beverly felt a warm hand grasp hers and squeeze it tightly. She smiled and chanced a glance at Jean-Luc. He returned her smile and the two enjoyed the remainder of Data's performance hand-in-hand.
