F is for Final Wishes
Death, is it? What was it, exactly?
They didn't know. They never died. Yes, their hearts had stopped beating and their skin grown cold, but...they weren't dead.
They were still walking, talking, thinking. Oh yes, they thought. Thinking had kept them from dying. Focusing on that one thought.
Revenge. They wanted revenge. They couldn't rest until they had it.
Revenge for betrayal.
Revenge for lost love.
Revenge for taking away what was precious to them.
It was all they wanted. It was all they needed. Thinking that kept them alive.
If they stopped thinking about it, whatever it was that had brought them back would throw them aside, back to death. They didn't want that. They still had something they needed to do.
Facing down death, the large unknown...it was frightening. Something they never could come back from...but didn't know what lay in store for them.
So they did what they could to stay alive. And if it meant listening to the voice that directed them, burrowed itself into their hearts and found their desire, promised to grant it-they'd do that.
They didn't want to die.
