Place Where I Belong

Chapter 1: Our first meeting

Jasper P.O.V

I'm sitting by myself as usual. I can hear them, the other children in the orphanage, laughing and playing with their friends as usual. I ignored them, as usual.

It was always like that, day in and day out. I ignored them, and they ignored me in return. I didn't mind it. I never felt like playing with them anyway. How could I possibly have fun when I knew, when I knew my parents were dead. Just thinking about it makes me have to fight back tears. Why? Why did they have to die? I didn't have an answer to that question. So I sat there, by myself, drowning in my own misery.

"Hello" chirped a voice from above me. I looked up, startled that someone was even talking to me.

It was a girl. She was fairly petite with short dark brown hair that spiked out at the ends. She was smiling widely at me as if I were her best friend.

"Hi" I mumbled back, looking down at my feet again, paying no heed to her. It was rude, but right now I just want to be alone.

"Why are you so sad?" She inquired. I looked up to see her grin was gone and her head was tilted to the side. She looked kind of cute.

"What's it to you?" I spat back, harder then I intended. She gave a slight smile in return.

"Well, because I don't want you to be sad." She just about sang in her soprano voice.

"Why?" Why in the world would she not want me to be sad?! She barely knew me!

"Because we're going to be friends of course, silly!" she proclaimed as she gracefully sat next to me.

"What are you talking about?" I demanded, scooting away from her. "I don't want any friends!"

"You will." She claimed in the surest voice I'd ever heard.

"How do you know?" I asked, annoyed by her antics, yet slightly amused.

"Oh, I just know." She said a matter-a-factly, yet I had a feeling she wasn't telling me the whole story.

However before I could question her one of the orphanage workers called, "Everyone it's almost 9:00, it's time for lights out." All the children rushed to pick up their toys and get ready for bed.

"I have to go." chimed the small girl as she got to her feet and started to walk away.

"Wait!" She turned her head looking at me inquisitively. "You didn't tell me your name." I'd need to know it so that I can quiz her later on what she's hiding.

She smiled back at me. "My name is Alice."

"I'm Jasper." I replied. It was rude for someone to ask for a name and not give one in return.

She beamed at me, happiness radiating off of every inch of her. "I'll see you later then, Jasper." She sang in that sure voice again and skipped off. For some reason, I'm not sure why, but I felt somewhat happier, hopeful even. I smiled, for the first time in a long time as I headed off to my room.
