Meredith's POV

Damon is still at the graveyard. Kneeling next to her grave, he's always kneeling next to her grave. I think he actually plans to stay there until he dies. And considering he's a vampire, that's a commitment. He has been sat there for a month, and I have been bringing him blood bags and blood sausage to keep him alive. I don't think he wants to be alive. I think he feels responsible for Bonnie's death. But it wasn't him, it was Elena. She shouldn't have been messing with magic that she didn't understand. She summoned another phantom, this one linked to the emotion hate. This time though, the phantom had gone on a maddened rampage and started hurting me and Damon because it thought that we killed its sister, jealousy. Stefan tried to do the banishing ritual, but none of us had been attacked by it yet so it didn't work. Bonnie saved us. She cast a centuries old spell for hate phantoms, which shattered its torso, so she could grab its heart which in this case was a large black diamond. Bonnie tried to destroy it, but it zapped her. In the end Stefan destroyed it, but little Bonnie was still unmoving on the floor. Damon tried to feed her his blood but it only made her come to for a few seconds. Her last words were 'I'm glad I saved you.' And then she slipped away into the darkness and her usually bright eyes went dull and blank. That's when Damon lost it. He sprang at Elena, and even though she screamed both of our names, neither Stefan nor I tried to help her. She's at the bottom of the creek under Wickery Bridge, where she should have died about a year ago. After that Stefan skipped town and I haven't heard from him since. I am doing a psychology degree at the community college and I am now kind of dating Sage. Ish. When he comes back from the dark dimension we go out and watch movies and stuff. But what I mostly do is look after Damon. After the way he behaved in Bonnie's defence I realised that he loved her. So he's okay in my books. I just wish she knew.

General POV

Damon and Meredith were – as usual – sat by Bonnie's grave when they heard the crunching of leaves behind them. They both started. No-one came to this part of the graveyard. Much less this secluded grave. Meredith whirled around and screamed. Damon didn't care. Even when Meredith stuttered 'D...d...Damon. Damon. You need to turn around now.' He replied 'Not now Meredith. If they are going to kill me, tell them to do it, I don't want to live like this anymore.' It wasn't until he heard a familiar voice say 'But Damon, I thought you'd be pleased to see me? Or was the whole 'Redbird' thing just meaningless?' He whirled around and saw...Bonnie.
