He really could not imagine a more perfect scene even if he had tried. The air was calm and a refreshing cool breeze pushed through the trees that surrounded him. But it was not the weather that was making him feel complete but the flower girl who had her hand resting perfectly in his as they walked under the moonlight.
Cloud was aware of the fact that anyone could see them from the windows of the hotel and if Yuffie happened to see, he knew they would never hear the end of it. Of course, Cloud was not quite ready for all the attention that was bound to follow them once their relationship was revealed but he liked to enjoy these little moments while they could.
"You're zoning out on me," she said suddenly, her twinkling eyes that fixed on the sky slowly came to meet his as she tried to suppress a smirk. "I'm not boring you am I?"
"You'd never bore me!" he replied a little too quickly, causing him to blush at her short giggle. He frowned and gave a small whine. "Leave me alone," he muttered with half-hearted annoyance. She smiled again and rested her head on his shoulder.
They reached a clearing in the woods, where the moonlight streamed through and created a small pool of light on the ground. Aeris turned around to face him, her body coated in the moonlight as she took both of his hands in hers, her thumb running across the skin tenderly. Cloud sighed in contentment as he rested his forehead against hers, his eyes glancing up at the full moon that watched them.
"Are you alright?" she asked, moving back to study him intently. He blinked, giving her a small smile and a nod for assurance. She raised an eyebrow but did not press the matter. Instead, she just moved her arms to encircle his waist, pulling him closer to her as she rested her head on his shoulder.
"It's such a beautiful night," she sighed. Cloud muttered an agreement as he kissed her neck. She turned her head, blocking his lips from their path. He moved back, staring into her eyes that were full of emotion.
"I love you," she whispered softly, wrapping her arms around his neck. He smiled a little and leaned down.
"I love you too," he replied before capturing her lips in a chaste kiss.
It was simple moments like this that Cloud loved the most. It didn't necessarily have to end in a kiss every time but it was just being with her, walking together in the moonlight that made him feel on top of the world. Some people believed the moon to be a sign of evil and death but to Cloud, it could be the most romantic thing in the world.
