A/N This is the songfic that I talked about on 'What Hurts The Most'. I thought that this is a little part of how Peeta felt during the series. He always wanted to win her over. Sorry it's short though. The song, in my opinion, spoke for him. (I think I'm better at one-shots/songfics than Chaptered stories... Oh well. Enjoy and R&R!
Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own The Hunger Games, or the song 'Over'.
Across the schoolyard, I see Katniss smiling and talking to her sister, Primrose. Every time I see her, I think of the day I first saw her, or the day I tossed her the bread.
I think of Gale, her best friend. I know he has feelings for her. She doesn't see it, but I do. It makes me a bit jealous to say the least. But what I am the most envious about, is how he protects her.
If I could, I would dare feed your dreams and starve your fears.
I wish I could protect her like he does. I wish I could be there for her.
If I could light the world, we could sit and watch it burn.
We could fall asleep inside the glow.
I wish I could tell her that I love her. I wish she could love me, but from the rate things are going, me not saying a word to her mostly, I don't think it's going to happen. A guy can try, right?
So tell me what I gotta do to win you over.
You'll never have to wonder if you need another.
You'll never have to wonder if I understand, and every time you reach for me you'll find a hand down.
I learn that even after the war and the hijacking, I still love Katniss. I remember how I felt the day before the reaping when I saw her across the schoolyard. I remember how I felt when I protected her from the nightmares all those nights on the train.
I want to feel that way again and again.
If I could take you in, feeling you deep beneath my skin.
Then I could slip away, with you as a poison in my veins.
I don't want to fall asleep alone, and wake up knowing that I died without the one.
I want to stay with her in District 12, and maybe get married. It may be selfish, but I only want her for the rest of my life. I just have to win her over.
So tell me what I gotta do to win you over.
You'll never have to wonder if you need another.
You'll never have to wonder if I understand, and every time you reach for me you'll find a hand out.
I hope I can win her over.
