When I heard they were all going to come back to life... this happened.
Axel blinked and raised an arm to shield his eyes from the glaring sun. The wind brushed across his face, tickling his left cheek. His right was pressed onto the rough stone ground by his own weight, and it actually hurt. Little insects ran past his view, and Axel could hear the scuttling of little clawed feet. The very air that he breathed seemed to hum with energy and warm him up. Everything felt so much more real, so alive that he hardly dared to breathe out of fear that it may be just all a dream.
He just lay there for a moment. Then he pushed himself up to take a better look at his surroundings.
He was in Radiant Garden, his old home.
This was unreal. One minute he was saying a tearful goodbye to his beloved friend in Betwixt and Between while dying, and the other he was lying splat in the middle of the Garden's plaza in broad daylight. What on earth was going on? Was this the afterlife?
Axel was still wearing the black cloak, the symbol of the Organization. He pinched himself on the arm through the smooth fabric and winced. The pain was real. Not a dream.
He was alive again, wasn't he? A slow lopsided grin spread across his face as it dawned upon him.
He wanted to dance.
He wanted to sing.
He wanted to hug the nearest passerby and then run screaming while naked through the streets.
It's a beautiful day.
