Three months.

Three months of constant crying.

Lily was a wreck.

James was a zombie.

Remus could barely take any more babysitting.

Peter was nowhere to be seen.

And all Sirius could do was alternate between pouting and smirking.

Lily wouldn't let Sirius hold the baby and while she had good reason, she had seen him play Quidditch and it wasn't pretty, it was starting to get ridiculous.

James finally snapped one day when Lily was crying in the shower and listening to Celestina Warbeck. He scooped up his howling son and shoved him into his best friend's arms then collapsed on the couch.

Sirius grinned when the crying stopped.

He turned to gloat to James but he was already asleep, half on the couch, half on the floor, a peaceful smile on his face.

Sirius sat down haughtily and glared at James, but he didn't have the heart to wake the poor sap up.

He was just staring to enjoy his Godsons smile when Lily barrelled into the lounge, sopping wet, wearing nothing but a towel, her eyes were bloodshot from crying and she had a strange look of anguished happiness on her face.

"How... how did you do that?" she whispered in wonder, her eyes darting to Harry as though afraid she would disturb him and he would start crying again.

"Oh" Sirius smirked "Did I forget to tell you? I'm the baby whisperer" he grinned while Lily gaped at him.

"Wha-what does that even mean?"

"You remember that summer I spent at Andy's house?" Lily nodded, she vaguely remembered hearing about it "Well Andy and Ted had just had little Dora, and I was the only one that could get her to stop crying too. Oh and the same thing happened just her the other day when Alice and Frank brought their boy to headquarters. Every baby I touch starts smiling or goes to sleep. I don't know what it is but babies love me. It's a gift" Sirius grinned smugly.

He calmly watched Lily's face go from an unpleasant sort of yellow that came with sleep deprivation, to the furious red that Sirius had come to associate with pain.

Lucky he had a baby shield.

"Why didn't you tell me?" she said, barely controlling her anger.

Sirius shrugged "It was funny at first… but then I got scared. I knew if I told you without an arm full of baby, you'd get all mad and maybe try to decapitate me or something" she had to admit, he had a point "you look tired" he said soothingly "why don't you go have a lie down? I'll look out for Harry."

Lily glanced at James, and then back to Sirius, she nodded exhaustedly then headed to bed, content with knowing that when she and James weren't around, Sirius would always be there to take care of her Harry.
