She walked away from the group of hooded people. He followed her.
They were in the forest, waiting for Harry Potter's decision.
"Narcissa." Lucius called her.
She didn't turn back. She was shaking.
Where was he ? Where was her baby ? Where was her little boy ?
He should be with them, with her.
"Macnair said he saw Drago in the castle. He'll be okay." Lucius added.
She would love to slap him. He was so calm... Their son where in this freaking place in the middle of a bloody battle, holy shit !
Lucius was about to take her hand.
"Don't." she warned, giving him a death glare, her voice surprisingly steady.
He didn't try again to comfort her. He was well aware that she was a Black and that Bellatrix, as mad as she was, was nothing compared to her own little sister. Narcissa could be quite frightening when she was upset.
"Do you care ? Do you care about him at least a little bit ?" she murmured in the silence of the night.
"Sure ! What..."
She sneered humorlessly.
"Not like a heir, Lucius. Do you care about your SON ?" she said, emphasizing the last word.
She knew she was unfair. But she was too tired to really care.
"Do you truly need an answer ?" her husband asked slowly.
That was one of the reasons she loved him. He had his faults, of course, but he was understanding. And he had always done his best to please her. And he knew that she knew he sincerely loved Drago.
"He's here because of you. If he die tonight..."
She didn't want to say that. But she needed a culprit for all her pains.
"You can't said that."
Lucius' deep voice was almost broken.
She hurted him. She knew that.
"It'll be your fault.'"
She couldn't stop herself. Someone else had to suffer like her, even if it was Lucius himself.
You can't hurt a foe as well as a friend, or better, someone who loved you and that you also loved.
He didn't say anything, lowering his head, feeling shameful. And idiot. And useless. And unable to protect her and their boy. He loved her. That hurted.
"Do you understand that I never could forgive you if it happens ?"
It was her worst fear.
She had never cried since Andromeda's departure. And now, there were tears in her icy eyes. Lucius couldn't see them, she has turned her back on him.
Meanwhile, he knew her well, and he somehow felt it. She wasn't okay. He needed to protect her. He needed to know that she loved him.
He got closer. She let him. He was next to her.
She felt better, but not much. She thought of the little Potter. She had some memories of his mother, a redhead younger than her. She was a Mudblood, but for the first time, Narcissa saw her like a mother. She wondered if she had felt the same when the Dark Lord was threatening her son's life.
Was her boy alive ? She took a breath. He had to. For her sake and Lucius'. She was utterly in love with her husband. But she couldn't afford to lose her baby. It was the best proof of their love she had. He was a part of their love.
Losing Drago would mean losing Lucius. The child was too much for them.
Lucius was speaking. She tried to listen. He was trying to comfort her. A tear felt on her pale face. It looked like her son was already dead.
"Narcissa. He's alive. No news is good news." he insisted.
He put all his confidence in those words.
"You can't know. What if our boy..." Narcissa whispered.
"Shhh."
He pulled her into an embrace and kissed her head. He said something in his ear, and she give him a smile, weak, but a smile nonetheless.
There were Death Eaters some metters behind. Their current comportement wasn't in the Pureblood codes. But really, they didn't give a damn.
That was feeling too good to be wrong, anyway.
