And so it begins

She sat on the deck of the Carpathian. Victims all around her. Like her. All tired, like her, all missing something, or someone. These were her people now. Jack was gone. Her love, and her heart ached for him. He died saving her, and all she could do was weep for him. She was in a way glad his suffering had ended, but her heart was only that more empty because of it. She arrived in America. And never dreamed it would be under these circumstances. And she spoke lightly under her breath, only to Jack. "How can I live here in this world without you?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Days after arriving in America, she was sick. Throwing up, and feeling nauseated. She sat, her head on the toilet seat, crying. "Oh God." Her suspicions were right. She was pregnant. It was Jack's, she was sure of it. "What am I going to do?" she said. "Excuse me Miss?" the doctor asked. "I have no where to go. My family's all.." she trailed off not wanting to reveal anything about her past self. "It will be all right Miss. We have wealthy families that sometimes volunteer to take specific cases such as this. With my recommendation of course." "Will you-" "Yes. You have nothing to fear, Rose. Just keep that child and yourself healthy." "Andrea?" "Yessir?" "Will you find the next name on the volunteer list please and bring it to me?" "Yessir" and she hurried away. She came back quite quickly. "Here you go sir." "Thank you Andrea. Now, Mrs. Dawson, do you have belongings you need to collect, anything of that sort?" "No." "All right then, Andrea, please call a taxi to take Mrs. Dawson to her new home." "Yessir." and she walked out of the room. "Don't worry Rose; we are putting you with a nice family, wealthy too. This is only temporary you understand?" "Yes." "Now, many of the mothers decide to have the mothers stay with them even after the baby is born, but that is entirely up to you. Most of the families on our volunteer list have lost a loved one, and are just looking to fill the void, the empty space." "Yes, I understand." "Good, you'll be fine Rose. Trust me." "Taxi's here sir." Andrea called. The doctor escorted Rose out to the taxi and helped her in. "I'll be sending Andrea with you to make sure you get there alright. I'll see you in a couple of weeks Rose." "Thank you doctor." The taxi door closed and they drove up town. Rose looked at all the buildings, so high. "It's funny how things lose their significance so quickly." she said to herself. "Mam?" Andrea questioned. "Nothing." "Please stop here sir." Andrea instructed the cab driver. "Andrea helped Rose out of the taxi and then paid the driver." "Thank you." Andrea said to the driver. They walked up to the front door and rang the door bell. A maid answered. "Yes?" "Yes, hello, I believe we are expected. Mrs. Dawson from the clinic is here." "Oh yes, please come in." "Thank you." Andrea said. "Follow me." the maid led them to a elaborately decorated sitting room. "Please wait here." They sat for minutes. Awaiting the lady of the house. Light foot steps could be heard on the hard wood floor. Suddenly they stopped. "R-Rose?!" Rose looked toward the doorway. "Mother?"
