A Lonely Warrior

I walk alone on this planet,

Beneath a red sky that I haven't met before.

Has it been long since I started searching?

It feels like over a year since we last spoke.

Glowing hair and gleaming eyes.

A man I hadn't met before.

But yet, we had met.

Even in a heated battle,

You seemed happy to see me.

And for the first time in my life,

I felt like a child.

I had waited for you

On that miserable mud-ball,

Which you call "home".

Much to my dismay,

I learned you wouldn't be returning.

That's why I left.

So here I am,

In another world I don't know.

It feels like forever since I started.

Has it been that long since we spoke?

Dry dusk lifts from the ground,

Off of faces I keep seeing.

My journey will continue,

Only until I find you.

Because I need to thank you,

For burying this worthless corpse.

Anyone else would've lain me to rot.

I want to see you again,

To speak for one last time.

I want to see the sky

The way you see it.

I want to thank you.

Then that will be the end.

Counting down the days

Until I see you again.

I walk alone on this planet,

Beneath a red sky that I haven't met before.

This poem maps out a short-story I'm hopefully going to write. I'm deciding whether to keep the name of the poem as the name of the story.
