Lucy Heartfilia was the most optimistic person in the Fairy Tail Guild. She had gone from being a mostly normal person with very few wizarding skills to being one of the most useful and respected members of the entire guild. Lucy didn't have the powers that her powerful, but shallow friends had. Natsu, Gray, and Erza were masters at fighting, but they didn't have the kindness and maturity needed. Lucy lived up to her last name by being the heart of the team.

Despite how essential she was, Lucy didn't feel like she was an important enough part of the team. She was strong when it came to heart and smartness, but she was lacking in physical strength. She wanted to work on her strength and she hoped that her friends could help her with that. Lucy walked into the guild. She looked around and saw her friends sitting at one of the tables. She walked over to them and gently said, "Hi guys."

Natsu Dragneel replied, "Hi dude."

Lucy felt offended so she said, "Dude? I'm a woman."

Natsu replied, "Come on bro."

Gray Fullbuster said, "It is a pretty silly thing to call a woman."

Lucy was feeling shy, so it took her a minute to speak up. She faced her friends and said, "There's something that I could use your help with."

Erza Scarlet asked, "What is it?"

Lucy explained, "I know that I'm failing this team when it comes to muscle."

Natsu pointed to Lucy and jokingly said, "You're a weakling." He did an immature sounding laugh.

Lucy said, "I want to be better at fighting. I was hoping that you guys can teach me some fighting skills."

Erza looked up at Lucy and replied, "I admire your effort, but it's a hopeless cause."

Lucy was surprised and confused by Erza's response, so she asked, "What do you mean?"

Erza explained, "You don't have what it takes to be a fighter. You're overly sensitive and you get defeated easily. If I was in a fight with you, you'd lose the fight quickly."

Lucy started feeling a little nervous while saying, "I know that I'm not the princess of strength or anything like that, but I think that I have potential."

Natsu asked, "Potential?"

Gray said, "Lucy, you're a nice person, but you wouldn't be a nice fighter. Since we're your friends, it's our job to encourage you to give up hope and don't bother trying to be a fighter."

Lucy was unpleasantly surprised by her friends' lack of hope and trust in her. She said, "If you feel that way, I won't get fighting lessons from you. However, I don't intend on giving up. I'm going to keep on trying to be a good fighter." She walked away.

Natsu looked at Gray and Erza and asked, "Why would Lucy ever think that she could be an awesome fighter?"

Erza replied, "Lucy's one of my best friends, but I consider her a fool."

Gray said, "Erza, that's going a little too far."

Erza replied, "Lucy has no right to think that she can be a fighter. I hope her big brain starts realizing that."

Lucy walked by Makarov Dreyar and asked, "May I ask you a question?"

Makarov answered, "Of course you can."

Lucy gently asked, "Do you think that I have what it takes to be a good fighter?"

Makarov burst into laughter and said, "No way. Just stand around and look pretty." Lucy frowned at him.

Meanwhile, the villainous Duke Everlue had been released from prison for good behavior. However, he had no intention of keeping up his good behavior around the Fairy Tail Guild. He wanted revenge on Lucy and Natsu for getting him in trouble. He had heard about Gray and Erza and had decided to add them to his enemies list for the heck of it. The prison guards were unaware that Duke had been spending his time learning magical potions. He was planning on using is newly learned magical powers to defeat Lucy and her friends. Duke said, "I'll get revenge on that gross looking girl, that muscled fool, and their friends. They're going to learn that I have the richest of magic." The villain did an evil laugh.

The next day Lucy went to the guild. She looked around and saw Juvia Lockser. She knew that Juvia could relate to not feeling like a good fighter, so she decided to talk to her about it. Juvia said, "Lucy, our job is to be caring and cute, not to get involved with the fighting."

Lucy replied, "Come on. I believe that the sweeties can get involved with the fighting. We can beat up the villains while still being cute."

Juvia said, "I don't think so. Besides, you seem too weak to win any kind of fight."

Lucy replied, "Wowsers, I thought you'd be more respectful about this."

Duke Everlue appeared near the guild. He grabbed an intercom and said, "Attention guild members: I'm Duke Everlue, one of the coolest and handsomest rich guys of al time. I've upgraded myself to being a magician too. I want revenge on the guild members who got me arrested. I challenge them to a battle. I'm also interested in dealing with their friends, so come outside and fight me." He did an evil laugh.

Lucy thought that this was her chance to join in on a fight and show off her fighting skills. She faced her friends and said, "I feel ready for this fight."

Erza sternly replied, "You shouldn't feel ready, because you're not going to get to participate in it."

Lucy said, "But we should all fight together. You need as many people to fight as possible."

Erza replied, "You wouldn't be of any use in this fight. Besides, Natsu has informed me that Duke Everlue isn't much of a threat. Stand here and look pretty. I'll take care of that fool."

Lucy looked at Natsu and asked, "Don't you want me to join the fight?"

Natsu said, "Nah, you suck at fights."

Gray said, "Lucy, I'm sorry, but you and fights are not an acceptable combo." Erza, Natsu, and Gray started heading outside while Lucy stood around. She was starting to feel like her friends barely had any trust in her.

The three fighters went outside and saw Duke Everlue. Erza got out her sword and said, "You better surrender."

Duke had a smug smile on his face while saying, "You're giving out a warning that would suit you better."

Natsu said, "Good insult." Natsu high-fived Duke. Erza angrily stared at Natsu.

Gray said, "Duke Everlue seems like an overconfident fool." He froze Duke's shoulder and said, "You earned a cold shoulder."

Duke Everlue started getting a magical potion ready. He said, "You're going to face the ultimate wrath. I must admit that I don't know the sword girl and the bootleg Mr. Freeze very well."

Gray stubbornly replied, "I'm not a ripoff of Mr. Freeze."

Natsu jokingly said, "Let it go."

Gray angrily replied, "I was created before Queen Elsa, so I couldn't be a ripoff of her either."

Natsu responded, "Mediocre Frozen jokes never bothered me anyways."

Erza said, "Guys, we have more important things to do than make chillingly bad jokes about Gray's ice powers."

Natsu got excited and said, "I need to show Duke how awesomely powerful I am." He ran up to Duke and punched him a bunch of times.

Duke sprayed a potion at Natsu and said, "That potion will take care of you."

Natsu asked, "What does it do?"

Duke said, "Use your powers on me and find out."

Natsu replied, "Okay then." Natsu tried to use his fire powers on Duke, but the flames went to his hair.

Duke said, "The potion makes it so that you can hurt yourself, but you can't hurt me."

Natsu's body didn't hurt by the flames, but his hair got burned off. Natsu was completely bald. He screamed, "Oh no!"

Gray said, "Your hair wasn't that important or nice looking, so don't worry about it. I'm going to take care of Duke." He tried to freeze Duke, but Duke sprayed the potion at Gray. The potion made Gray accidentally freeze himself. Natsu and Erza saw that Gray was trapped in a block of his own ice.

Natsu was having conflicting feelings about what was going on. He was sad about losing his hair, but he thought that Gray being frozen by himself was comedy gold. He cried and laughed at the same time. He was so distracted by his petty behavior that Duke got a chance to blast him to the ground. Natsu passed out.

Erza faced Duke and said, "You defeated my sidekicks, but I assure you that you won't defeat me." Erza started running up to Duke. Duke sprayed a potion at Erza's sword. Erza tried to use her sword to knock Duke to the ground, but the potion made her use the sword to knock herself to the ground. She had a fight with herself. She accidentally defeated herself and passed out.

Lucy went outside and saw that Duke had defeated her friends. She nervously said, "My three best friends have been defeated and none of them think that I have the power to fight Duke. What am I supposed to do?"

Makarov walked up to Lucy and said, "You should fight him."

Lucy replied, "But you thought that being a fighter was an absurd thought."

Makarov responded, "Your friends turned to be weaker than I thought. That made me realize that you might be stronger than I thought. However, you still don't look like the type of person who'd do well in a fight."

Lucy confidently replied, "I'm going to show Duke the magic that I have."

Lucy stepped outside. She knew that she'd need confidence and determination to win this fight, so put her fears aside and felt ready to win. She faced Duke and said, "Greetings to you, old enemy."

Duke replied, "Ah, it's the ugly girl."

Lucy angrily said, "Hey, you have no idea what beauty is."

Duke replied, "Sounds like you want to give fashion tips instead of battle moves. Your fragile, weak persona is hardly worthy of me. I'm afraid that this is going to be a short fight."

Lucy started heading closer to Duke. Duke sprayed a potion on her and said, "That'll make you fight yourself instead of me."

Lucy said, "I was watching your fight with my friends. I got out my magic book and found a spell that made that potion not work on me. I would of told my friends about it, but I knew that they'd reject it. The potion won't work on me. I sprayed a potion on myself that'll make your power potion bounce off me and affect you instead. If you try to fight me, you'll actually be fighting yourself."

Duke was an overconfident fool, so he said, "That isn't what's going on. Prepare to face the wrath of being proven wrong."

Lucy whispered, "You're giving out a warning that would suit you better." Duke tried to blast Lucy, but the potion made it so that he was the only who got blasted. Duke tried several more attack moves. He accidentally kept beating himself up. He passed out.

Lucy used a spell to free Gray from the ice and she used a sperate spell to wake up Natsu and Erza. She said, "I stopped Duke Everlue." Lucy's friends were shocked. They realized that she was a lot more powerful than they thought he was.

Erza patted Lucy on the back and said, "You're not the fool that I thought you were. Your heart is what empowers you and makes you an amazing fighter."

Lucy replied, "Thank you Erza." She hugged Erza and said, "I hope that I can join in on the fights."

Erza responded, "I want you to be involved with all of our future fights. You're much more useful than the guys."

Gray replied, "Hey."

Natsu whined, "I'm still bald."

Lucy looked over at her friends. She was glad that they had confidence in her. However, the most important thing was that Lucy never gave up on her dreams and she never will.
