SPOILER ALERT: SEASON FIVE –THE VARIABLE

Summary: My version of what should have happened at the end of 'The Variable'

Richard watched in horror as a man in a DHARMA suite infiltrated their camp. This was it. The truce that they were trying to keep was slowly dissipating. It would seem to him. He gave an awkward look at the man who was pointing a gun at him. He looked familiar, than the man asked about the hydrogen bomb. It finally hit him that he saw that man. He was the one who said that he was in love with the redhead. All those years ago. He was about to ask him where the redhead was when all of sudden he heard a gunshot.
Richard stumbled back and dropped the cup that was in his hand. He had thought that the man had shot him. However, when he saw Eloise with a shotgun he knew that she had shot the man. The man fell to the ground. He couldn't remember the name of the man. His mind was failing him. He glanced at Eloise and demanded to know why she had shot him.
"Why did you shot him?" Richard demanded in a very angry tone.
"He was holding a gun at you, Richard" Eloise said as she stepped forward and went over to the man who was on the ground.
"He wasn't going to shot me, Eloise" Richard snapped as he walked over to the man also.
"Eloise…" the man began "You knew, you knew all along that this would happen"
Eloise looked at the man, "Who are you!?" She said in an arrogant voice.
"I'm your son, Daniel" Daniel said in a weak voice
"I don't have a so…." Eloise trailed off and looked at Richard. "When were you born?"
"October 8th, 1977" He replied in a weak voice as he was about black out.
"That's five months from now" Richard stated, pointing out the obvious as he stared at Eloise.
Eloise had a worried look on her face. She was four months pregnant and had just shot her son. She looked at Richard with eyes of pleading, "You can save him can you?"
"You shot him in the leg, I think he is going to be fine, Eloise" Richard said as he got up. "But I will go get my kit" He said as he disappeared for a moment and came back with his kit and kneeled down besides Daniel. He was about to take out the bullet from the leg when Daniel began to speak.
"Why do you look familiar, I mean…" He trailed off "You have the same eyes as me"
Richard chuckled, "Well, a lot of people have brown eyes"
"I know…I'm a scientist, but your face and eyes look exactly like me"
Richard looked at Daniel. "Right" He said as he began to extract the bullet from his leg.
Eloise was looking on as the two men had a conversation. She wondered if she should tell Richard. Charles thought he was the father, but it really wasn't his. This child belonged to Richard and she didn't know if she could tell him. Not with her future son in front of her.
"But I swear" Daniel said
"The low oxygen levels going to your head are making you delirious" Richard said as he finished taking the bullet out of his leg. "All done"
"He isn't delirious, Richard, he is your son" Eloise finally said.
