ARK: Abandoned lab.

"Oooh. I hate it when they leave me behind!" A young pink hedgehog named Amy exclaimed, clearly annoyed.
She whined to herself as she walked down a corridor in the Space Colony ARK. Amy looked into a large room, t'was empty except...
She saw a dark, jet black and crimson figure at the front of the room, staring out of it into space, at the planet Earth in all its vigor.
"Look it's Shadow!" Amy said, rather excitedly. "I've really gotta stop whining. Everyone is trying their best and so must I!" The pink hedgehog said with an increasingly cheerful voice. She bounded toward the dark, black, crimson figure. There was a metre or so, distance between them, she was behind he.
He being Shadow, did not notice the girl behind him, or at least seemed not to...
"Shadow! We need you! Please help us!" Amy practically begged.
Shadow finally spoke, however, he did not turn to look at her while talking, in fact, he continued to stare at the planet Earth, through the very large window.
"It's all going according to plan. There is no reason for me to help them." Shadow said nonchalantly before continuing, "Besides there's no way to save anyone." Shadow said nonchalantly, now finished with what he had to say.
Amy almost instantly replied "There has to be!" Little did he know she was about to make a speech.
"I know that people fight over the most trivial things. Some people may be selfish like the professor said. But they're basically good. If they try their best and never give up on their wishes, they always have a reason to be happy. That's why you should help them out. Saving them is a good thing! Shadow I beg you! Please do it for them! Give them a chance!" Amy finally finished, what she said brought back memories for Shadow. Of Maria. Memories of his promise to her.
He remembered her words exactly.
She - Maria - said, "Shadow, I beg of you, please do it for me... for a better future!" Maria begged him, within his flashback that he - Shadow - cherished.
Still in his flashback he remembers saying, nay, shouting, from the pod he was in, "MARIA!" Shocked at her actions.
Maria continued, "For all these people on that planet... give them a chance to be happy... Let them live for their dreams. Shadow I know you can do it. That's the reason why you were brought into this world. Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog." Maria begged as his flashback ended.
Shadow then said, not realizing that Amy was behind him still, as he spoke to himself. "That's what I've promised her and I must keep that promise it's what Maria wished for!" Shadow said, now realizing what he must do.
As he spoke to himself, Amy, slightly confused at this point, inquisitively asked "Shadow?" In hopes he'd seen what he must do - which he had.
After his realization, he then said after Amy's inquisitive question, "I've got to go now! I have to keep my promise to Maria, and you!" He said abruptly, before dashing off instantly to help Sonic and the others save the world.
