Pairing: Shess-ish (Shane / Tess)

Author: DramaticStarlet / Katie Lynn
A/N: Angstyness.

Yeah, Tess is a little weird in this story. You're warned.

--

She was fading, fading away. And she didn't mind.

In her Hollister sunsets and Abercrombie dreams, she disappeared into a place where everything was okay. Her mom wasn't there to neglect her, her father wasn't there to berate her. There was just her – Tess, and her pretty clothes, and a perfect, imaginary boytoy that doted on her.

She faded into Aéropostale illusions, shallow little daydreams where Tess ruled supreme. Where she'd won Final Jam over Peggy/Margaret. Where she'd captured the heart of Shane Gray, and Mitchie Torres was left to her own vices. And where she made her parents so proud of her she could hardly stand all of the attention they suffocated her with.

Living in her fantasies was fun, and she could be whatever she wanted to be.

She could be a princess, just like she'd always wanted, or a model, or the apple of her mother's eye. Sometimes, Tess just liked to pretend that she had friends, real ones, that liked her for who she was and not for who she had connections with.

When she awoke from her reverie, she felt like a nobody.

Not pretty, not smart, not important.

Tess had submerged herself in her phantasms so much, become so dependent on them, that suddenly reality became a nightmare. It was the weirdest thing, she didn't know what was real or imaginary. Was she really pretty, was she really Shane Gray's girlfriend, was she really a ballerina? Or were those dreams?

She forgot who she was.

Silly little pipe dreams had turned into her addiction, her only reason for living through another frightening, nightmarish day.

Tess actually looked in the mirror one day.

She was pale, emaciated, too thin. In her Hollister sunsets and Abercrombie dreams, she was sun-kissed, curvacious, beautiful.

Tess laid back on her bed, and tried to go to sleep, so that she could fade and forget, but her eyes refused to shut.

And she stayed awake for two days, eyes wide with fear. Where was her beautiful vision? Where was her gorgeous, wonderful boytoy? Where was her Final Jam trophy? And Shane Gray pining for her?

God, where was reality?

Her mother came back from her tour on the third night.

Tess was lying on the kitchen floor, sleeping pills scattered around her, a bloodied razor sitting in her snow-white hand.

"Tess," TJ Tyler gasped, collapsing next to her daughter's body.

Tess did not respond.

She was in her Hollister sunsets and Abercrombie dreams and Aéropostale fantasies forever, now.

In the reality she created.

The reality that ultimately destroyed her.

Wow, I just seriously scared myself with that oneshot.

Yeah, so Tess basically lost herself in her daydreams, because she was who she wanted to be in them. Which is really very sad...

Please review with more than "so sad!" or "i loved it," thanks!
