"No! No! Get off! GET OFF! NO!" I was desperate, I needed to get away.
I thrashed as much as I could, but it was helpless. He had me pinned. I tried to scream, but he clamped a hand over my mouth.
He was at least a hundred pounds heavier, and five inches taller. It was no use.
He looked down at me and grinned, evil written in his eyes.
"Revenge," he whispered; my eyes widened. Oh, crap.
And the glob of spit hit my on the nose.
I screamed as he removed his hand, laughing. Wiping it off furiously, I rolled out from under him, using his laughter as a distraction. I lunged at him, aiming for his throat. But he was quick, even doubled over with laughter. He dodged, and I flopped to the ground. He spit on me again, and jumped up and ran.
"MOM!" I screamed. I saw her in the window. She had to have seen something! But she smiled and shrugged. I glared at her, debating whether to go in, but my pride beat me out. I ran after my brother. He was way ahead, already near the gate that marked the end of our property. He looked back and grinned at me.
I hated my brother.
Although, some part of me was relieved. His last Reapings had been yesterday, and in three weeks he would turn nineteen. He was safe.
I reached him when he was halfway up the fence. I yanked him down, he the ground and the breath wooshed out of him. I sat on his chest anyway, and looked down on him until he got his breath back. When he did, I somehow ended up tackled.
I struggled for a bit, but sighed after a while. "Uncle." He smiled, and rolled off me, collapsing next to me. We lay there for a while, looking at the cloud-covered sky. No sun was able to peek though, but my day was still bright.
"Hey, Linth?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm…" how to say this without sounding weird?
He looked at me. "Yeah?" he emphasized, flicking my forehead. I slapped his hand away.
"I'm glad you weren't Reaped." I said. He looked at the sky again.
"Yeah, me too." He scratched his stomach. "Too bad you weren't, though." He jumped up and ran toward the house, and I grabbed after him. Missing, of course. I fell back to the grass.
"Ass!" I called after him, eyes closed.
"Love you too, big sista!" I heard a door slam.
I hated my brother.
