"A battle. I was chosen… for a battle." Resse sat in his room nervously, thinking about what he had just heard. He had been chosen for a battle. He didn't even know how to battle! What to do to prepare, what to do during the battle, how to win… he knew none of that! He would have to find some help. Hopefully, someone was willing to help. Maybe his mentor could advise him? Would a mentor even do that? Is that allowed? It couldn't hurt to ask. They are mentors after all. Sighing, he laid back on the bed and placed his hands behind his head. He stared up at the ceiling for a while.
Although Resse had become more confident in the last few years, he was still that awkward, shy guy who wouldn't initiate the conversation, but who would carry it out for hours. He talked practically non-stop to anyone who would listen – except when he was nervous. It was that time when he would start to ramble, catch himself half-way through, and stop himself. It was better that way, as he wouldn't annoy his mentors with his non-stop talking.
"Well, this should be…interesting," he thought. He always got worried when he met with his mentor. He figured it was probably because he was so shy, but he was also somewhat afraid of his mentors. They held so much power here in Wonderland, that he knew they could make his afterlife a living hell, not that it wasn't horrible already. Arriving at the place called "the tea party," Resse looked around for his mentor, David Hanson. Spotting him at a nearby table, he walked over to him. Greeting David, he stood before him, shifting around anxiously. "I need some help," he said, "I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I was chosen for a battle, as I'm sure you already know. It's just, I have no idea how to prepare, how to fight, how to win. I came to ask if you could help me. Could you, maybe, tell me what I'm supposed to do?" Realizing he was rambling, he stopped talking.
He didn't know exactly what he'd expected. Obviously, David wouldn't train him or anything. He was just hoping for some tips, but all he'd gotten was a, "Try asking some of your fellow Hearts for help." That didn't help him much. Maybe he would try talking to Alice. He hadn't exactly made friends with any of the Hearts, yet. He had just arrived, after all, and he wasn't the best at making friends to begin with. In Wonderland, it was even tougher for him. He didn't have much to contribute except his intellect. He could plan, which was helpful, but if nobody bothered to talk to him, they wouldn't know about that. He felt alone here. "Of course no one would want to help me out. I mean, what would I give them? What person wants to help for noting in return?" He thought, his feeling bordering between upset and angry.
