"Estormo. I am pleased you made it in time."
Ancano turned to face the hooded Altmer behind him, dressed in the colours of the Thalmor. He sighed, releasing a small cloud into the cold air of the Midden. Even here, he could feel the immense power of the Eye of Magnus, hovering above in the Hall of Elements.
"I have a task for you."
"Of course, Ancano. What is it?" Estormo grinned, folding his arms over his chest. "Received one too many insults from the College's… less than talented pupils?"
"Not mere insults, my friend. There is one man, who poses a threat to the Aldmeri Dominion. He is dangerous - he must be … removed." Ancano slid a finger over his chin, while turning his back on the other Mer once more. He now focused on the manifestation of magic before him - the Augur of Dunlain. Once a student at the College, now an artifact that shares its wisdom with everyone who seeks answers. And this 'Augur' had indeed provided him with answers. But not only him - it had shared its wisdom with another.
The Mer's expression slowly turned into a frown. He could not risk losing both the Eye and the staff to these degenerates! These filthy Nords, who's inferior minds could not comprehend the power of magic. No, the Aldmeri Dominion deserved such power, not the lesser species. The power to unmake… he shook his head. He could only rejoice once the artifacts had been successfully delivered to the Dominion.
"Time is short. One of the students has been sent to retrieve the Staff of Magnus. I… know for a fact, that it is located in the Labyrinthian. I want that staff. And I want that man dead."
"As you wish. I am sure it will only be a minor inconvenience. I will take care of him."
"Estormo."
"What is it?"
Ancano looked over his shoulder, towards Estormo. His friend. "He is dangerous." He sighed once more as he looked forward again - slightly jumping in surprise as the other Mer placed a hand on his shoulder.
"The power we sought before is within our reach once more, Ancano. If we harness that power, we will be unstoppable. Do not worry, I shall return and aid you after I have finished. I will not let one man stand in my way." Estormo smiled, while moving his hand from Ancano's shoulder, instead momentarily touching the Mer's hand.
Ancano's lips twisted to form a thin smile. "Of course."
"Until next we meet." Estormo turned, pulling his hand away. For a moment, his footsteps echoed in the icy cave of the Midden.
Ancano's smile faded as the echoes stopped. He felt a strange pressure within - anxiety? Fear? Worry? He shook his head and turned to leave the Midden as well. He ascended the stairs and climbed up the creaking wooden ladder. From the courtyard, he watched Estormo depart, until he disappeared in the snow.
"Until next we meet… my friend."
