AN: For the day of Alexander's death. Not the best I've ever written, but I felt I had to write something. I hope you all enjoy!
Alexander had always seen value in material things; they told of his wealth, his royalty, and told whoever he shared it with that he loved them.
That all changed the day Hephaestion left him and their carefully built world. Soon after Hephaestion's funeral, all of Alexander's subjects, even those closest to him, could see that something changed in their beloved king. It was as if he was a specter in his own palace and the city he had made a haven. But now…Without Hephaestion, everything, his palace, the city, even his wealth and power, felt like a prison. Nothing had value anymore, not even his own life.
Soon, and much to Alexander's delight, his body began to waste away, and he became sick. Confined to bed, unable to speak, he instead dreamed of Hephaestion, and getting to see him again in it would feel like to hold him again in his arms, and be held by him. To be kissed by him… Alexander missed him so much. He had never missed anyone or anything more.
The day finally came where Alexander felt ready to pass on into Elysium, and with each ragged breath he felt closer and closer to his beautiful Phai whom he had not seen in eight long, grueling months. And with one last shallow breath, he was on Charon's boat floating all-too-slowly across the River Styx. The sorting of the newly dead souls seemed to take an eternity, and then he was in Elysium, searching for his Hephaestion, his beloved Phai.
"Alexander? Alexander!" Finally, finally he heard that beautiful voice he had thought he would never hear again after the worst day in his life when Hephaestion had left him. He turned immediately toward that gorgeous sound, and was graced with the vision of Hephaestion running toward him, clearly confused, panicked, but glad as well, "Alexander, is it really you? What happened, why are you here?"
"Phai, Phai, calm, breathe. Yes, it is really me. I missed you."
"I missed you, but why are you here?"
"Because I realized what I truly valued. I want to be here, Phai. With you. I love you more than all life could give me. Life had no meaning, power had no meaning without you by my side. I wanted to be with you, and now I am. I love you more than life itself. I value you more, and I always will."
