The Dream
For hours and hours she slept but no matter how hard she tried she could not wake up. The dream or nightmare as it was; held Sarah captive. It all started out innocently enough. After a long hard day at school Sarah marched straight through her house and to her bedroom. Not stopping to think about her clothes she fell into her bed and was asleep before her head hit the pillow.
The dream started in a room she somehow recognized as her own, though she had never been there before. She was lying in the bed, her eyes traveled to the clock at her bedside and she realized she had wasted a lot of time. Sarah tried to get up to get her math homework but she couldn't seem to manage. Her body felt heavy and unresponsive. She looked at her hands and feet only to seen she was being restrained by strong metal manacles that clanked as she struggled. Sarah was beginning to panic.
I was being restrained. The cool metal had warmed from my skin. My head suddenly jerked upwards. I could hear foot steps. Someone was definitely in the room with me. A shadow moved across the ceiling. My breathing had grown frantic and I renewed my struggles with even more force. Then the laughter started. You could hardly call it laughter; it was more like high pitched giggles. Little shapes took form around the room. The squeals and laughter escalated, and suddenly there was silence. Slowly the latch on my window was being unlocked by some unseen force. The window blew open with a big gust of wind. I lay there waiting in trepidation. I caught the first sign of movement with the corner of my eye. A tall figure garbed all in white appeared and I had to force back a whimper. The figure walked towards me. He leaned over to whisper in my ear "You should have known you could never escape me Sarah. You are mine! And I will never let you go!" The primitive look in his mismatched eyes terrified me. The hair I remember so well glinted silver in the moonlight lending him an eerie glow. I dredged up my last ounce of courage. I lifted my head to look him in the determinedly eye and replied "Never yours, Jareth!" and then it all went black.
