One Step Closer

"Kathryn?" Regina tiptoed into Kathryn's bedroom, where she found her in her bed, lying on her stomach, reading a book. Like nothing had even happened.

"Regina." she said contently. Regina sighed. How could Kathryn possibly be this...this calm?

"Are we going to talk about last night?" asked Regina, her voice strained. Kathryn rolled over on her side.

"What's there to talk about?" she asked in that sweet, seductive voice that Regina always found so soothing. Whenever Kathryn spoke, it was like the weight of the world was falling right off Regina's shoulders.

"Kathryn," Regina started. "This whole thing is an issue. W-We can't just throw it aside and pretend like it never happened." Kathryn smiled.

"Are you saying you don't want to forget?" she asked. Regina felt her face burning. Kathryn just laughed. "You, Regina Vasquez, are a strange woman."

"Oh?" questioned Regina. "And why is that?"

"You're obviously attracted to me, yet you choose to deny it," Kathryn said, casually flipping through the pages of her book. She looked up at Regina, who was standing at her bedside. "I wonder why that is."

"I'm married," said Regina without hesitation.

"So am I." Kathryn slid her reading glasses off. "Do you see a difference?" Regina gulped, afraid that Kathryn would bring up that touchy-subject again. The one that Regina didn't want to talk about, nor deal with.

"Y'know, Regina, you're like this with all the women. You see someone that looks desirable, and you just push the thoughts away, like you weren't just thinking about how extremely much you would like to have them in your bed." Regina shook her head.

"Kathryn, please, just drop it."

"You know what, Regina? I don't think I will," Kathryn declared recklessly. She rose from her bed and stood face-to-face with Regina, more than ready to tell her off. "You've been gay all your life, and you've always known. You're going on fifty years old, Regina! And you still haven't come out!" Regina began to cry subconsciously.

"Last night was a mistake, alright?" Regina sulked. "J-Just drop it already!"

"Regina! Our kiss was far from a mistake." Kathryn took Regina's hand. "I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world."

"Kathryn, stop," Regina begged.

Kathryn grabbed her and kissed her passionately.
