A/N: My first one-shot...but then again. Everything has a beginning, right?...er...right?Disclaimer: Don't own The Kane Chronicles, Rick Riordan does. Yada yada and the other stuff.
Now that we've got that over with, lets begin the story. Please leave me a REVIEW with your real opinion, unless your opinion is 'Your story is a ** piece of freakin ** that nobody should read!' If so, you have problems, my friend. Like maybe apply for a therapist...or maybe a mental institution. Now that my off-topic ramble is over with, here's the story!
Carter sliced through the massive horde of demons with a single objective. To get to Apophis. Behind him, Zia and Sadie, along with a few others, followed him while cutting down any demon dumb enough to get close. He was a whirlwind, blocking one hit, then spinning around and beheading some poor demon with his khopesh. The others stared at him in awe, unsure if this was Carter or some crazed demon who had switched sides.
At last they reached Apophis, who was in the form of a twenty foot tall snake with red eyes that towered over them. Carter glared at it for a moment, knowing that in a few minutes he would probably be dead. He rushed forward, hoping to buy some time by distracting Apophis. Sadie realized what was happening and began reciting the spell. Her mouth moved lightning fast, and Apophis hissed, writhing in agony. His tail smashed a group of demons while Carter ran forward and slashed at it.
Apophis narrowed his eyes and crushed a patch of ground near Carter with his tail. A miniature dust storm blinded Carter, just long enough for Apophis to land a hit. As Carter looked up towards the tail, the world seemed to move slower. He uttered a single phrase, "Goodbye,"before the world sped up again, and the tail smashed into him, taking his breath away and pounding him into the ground. The pain...The pain. It felt like a truck smashing him...crushing him. The world slowly faded away. But he had no regrets. No regrets...
Sadie watched as the tail hit her brother, still reciting the spell. Tears welled up in her eyes as she felt the ancient spell pull at her and sap her strength. Carter was surely dead. But she needn't be sad. Soon she would be following in his path. The spell would surely kill her. Just as she thought that, the tail came toward her. Apophis laughed, a terrible hissing noise that pained the ear. She was too tired to move.
Sadie, with the last of her energy, threw the book to Zia, who was looking like lightning had just struck in front of her. The tail was coming...but who cared? Not her. It was time for her to join Carter, Dad, Mom, and...Anubis. Zia would finish the spell, in fact Sadie could already hear her shouting it. Apophis' tail hit her right in the gut, and she landed with a sickening crunch on the sand. Sadie could hear cries...of both this world and the next. But she slowly slipped away from her body, saying her final goodbyes in her mind. Sadie had no regrets though. Regrets were for those idiots who lived in the past.
Zia watched as her two friends died, and felt a tugging in her heart. Fate was cruel, everything had been taken from her. The spell was all that was left, anchoring her to this world. As she finished, her strength too left her, and she fell to her knees, a smile on her face. The next world would be better. For sure. She too, had no regrets. What was to be regretted? Everthing- everybody she cared about-they were all gone. Now it was time for her to go as well...
Apophis screeched as invicible chains crushed it, forced it back to its prison. Not again. Failure...
