5/9/08-My brother had asked me one day why I named the cop dog Ace. Frankly, I always wished to own a rottweiler and name him Ace, but here is how Maria puts it. I own Maria and Ace as I made them up. Everything else, I do not own.

Ace in the Hole

"Ace! Find the ball!" Maria yelled as the large Rottweiler tramped around, sniffing for te missing tennis ball. The bright sun gleamed off of his black fur as he continued her effortless search, not noticing that the ball was at the base of the tree.

"You're so dopey, sometimes." She sighed as he turned back around, retracing his steps.

"Has he always been like that?" John looked at her, a perplexed look forming on his face. Maria reached a hand up and pinched the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes."Sadly, yes. Even as a pup. He does his job well, but her does have his silly moments."

She watched as Ace sat down, seeing if he could find the ball in that position. She shook her head slowly. This dog of her's is indeed dopey. "When I heard that a new litter of cop pups were born, I just had to check them out. It had been six months since Alex was killed and I really needed another dog in my life, even with a child along the way." John pulled his attention from the discouraged dog to his lady friend. She had full attention now.

"I saw the usual pups there at the training station. The German Shepherds, Belgium Shepherds, and other so called normal cop breeds, but I came across a small group of two month old rottweilers. The Lieutenant called them over so I could see how they ran. All of them were fantastic, but one stood out. I noticed that as I watched them run around a hole that had been dug by another dog. All ran around it except one. Poor little guy fell right into it. First thing I said was 'Ace in the Hole!'. He looked right at me and barked." Maria watched as a light breeze blew the leaves in the grass, causing as to chase a few.

Laughing, she ran her fingers through her brown hair, shoving it out of her face. "I knew O was going to have an interesting time working with him. He still surprises me even at his adult age."

Both humans watched the cop dog as his attention with the leaves was broken when he noticed the green ball.

"Well, that took him long enough." John exhaled as Ace took his time in celebrating of finding the missing ball. Maria could only sigh as he proceeded to growl at a squirrel that disturbed his fun. "He should know that he's not dangerous with that ball hanging out of his mouth. He looks really goofy."

"I know, hun. He even tried to pant once while a Frisbee was hanging from his front teeth. Big, bad cop dog my ass." Ace moved forward towards them and sat proudly down. The squirrel sounded like it was laughing at him. From the sound it was making.

"Well, love, how about you get him lost, this time." She pulled the wet ball from his white teeth and handed the ball to John. As John took the ball and prepared to through it, he wondered how long it was going to take him this time.

-End!

5/9/08-That was interesting. Kind of gives you all a basic idea of why I named the dog character that. Ace is fully based off of one of my dogs, Darwin. Even when he is almost 10, he still acts like a pup.
