HIS HAPPY PLACE
By: Vanessa Sgroi
Yeah, he loved her. From headlights to tailpipe. Loved her deep, throaty purr. A purr that quickly turned to a growl when he pressed harder on the gas pedal. Dean hummed a little ditty as he ran the soapy sponge over Baby's midnight paint and gleaming chrome. He wasn't afraid to admit that this was his happy place—one of them anyway—making his girl shine.
He soaped and rinsed, dried with special chamois clothes kept for just these occasions. Then he waxed, coaxing a beloved shimmer in the paint.
Sam teased him about his devotion, but Dean didn't miss the gleam of pride and appreciation in his brother's eyes. There were even times that Sam offered to help, shyly revealing his own devotion.
"Dean?" Sam's call echoed throughout the bunker's garage.
"Yeah?"
"Burgers are ready!"
"You didn't burn 'em, did you?" Dean buffed away the last of the wax. He heard Sam's disgruntled sigh and grinned. "Be right there."
He stowed away the bucket, wax, and chamois then gave Baby one final pat. "All pretty again, Baby. Sorry about all that mud...and gore. Can't say it won't happen again."
Time to go to his other happy place.
