Daisies and Zyzzyvas
a backwards alphabet fic
"Zyzzyvas?" Chloe questioned, looking at Lana.
"Yeah. What are they?" she asked.
"Xylophagous little creatures. Kind of."
"Weevils?"
"Very good," Chloe said, looking surprised.
"Um, what did you mean by 'kind of'?" Lana asked.
"That zyzzyvas are destructive to plants," she explained.
"So they're not completely xylophagous," Lana said.
"Right."
"Quebracho tree bark being out of the question then?"
"Probably," Chloe nodded.
"Okay, thanks," Lana smiled.
"No problem. Why did you need to know?"
"My science assignment. I had to see if a zyzzyva would be destructive to a quebracho tree."
"Lighter wood might be edible for the zyzzyva. But probably not quebracho bark," Chloe nodded.
"Knowledge of bugs and plants is a side of Chloe Sullivan that I didn't know existed," Lana smiled.
"Just something I remember reading about once. I don't know that much about the subjects," Chloe explained.
"I see. Thanks again."
"Happy to help," Chloe smiled at her.
"Good. I'll keep that in mind," Lana said.
"Feel free to ask me anything like that."
"Even what the scientific name of a daisy is?"
"Daisy.. I don't know," Chloe admitted.
"Chrysanthemum leucanthemum," Lana informed her.
"Beyond belief that you know that," Chloe teased.
"And what does that mean?" Lana questioned, causing Chloe to blush.
