Crimson Tears

Crimson.

It was their favourite colour ever since Arthur Weasley had enchanted the apple tree growing in their front yard to magically drop into the hands of Fred and George Weasley when they stood below the tree and yelled 'Apple!'

It had been the colour of Fred's first broomstick; the one Aunt Martha had gifted them for our second birthday. Mine had been cyan.

That was the day Fred Weasley had truly fallen in love with the colour crimson – with the passion, joy and crazy mirth it represented and he owned.

Fred also chose to wear dress robes of a soulful crimson colour for the Yule Ball, giddy with the excitement of going with his long-term crush Angelina. George had teased him all day, telling him that it clashed awfully with the trademark Weasley ginger hair.

But George had been wrong. Fred had looked positively dashing on the eve of the ball, paired with the golden-clad Angelina who glowed like she was the luckiest girl in whole of Hogwarts.

Crimson.

It was the one colour that George now loathed.

It only reminded him of the pool of crimson upon which George had discovered his twin's body, aghast at the lifeless form who had only five minutes back grinned encouragingly at him.

It was the colour of Tonk's hair as she too lay dead on the floor, a weeping Teddy clutching his mother's lifeless arm. It was a horrific sight that would forever be imprinted upon George's mind, refusing to let time erase it for good.

But it was also the colour his little sister turned as he pulled her leg; the colour of the shiny apples he polished off alongside Ron, and the colour of the sheets that adorned Percy's reclaimed room and the colour of the butterflies that spun crazy circles in his front yard.

All signs of life. All proof that he was still alive to carry on his brother's legacy.

It was time to quit shedding those tears of crimson.
