Britta only has herbal tea one night because she is staying at Annie, Troy and Abed's and they have a rule that there is no caffeine after dinner. She presumes the rule has some sort of grounding and isn't just there to ruin her life and, after seeing Troy and Abed literally jump around the whole apartment she thinks she might know why. So she accepts a cup of something very weird smelling in a mug and tries not to make a face.

(It wouldn't matter anyway, Annie always seems to know what she's thinking)

She takes a sip because Annie has guilt powers almost as good as Shirley's although hers more has to do with her big stupid perfect beautiful doe eyes and the way her hopeful smile makes her believe that everything in the world might end up okay.

(Closer up it smells better and she watches ocean eyes over the top of her mug until they're hidden)

It tastes of warmth first, the way any tea does as it hits the tongue. Straight after she tastes a bitter-sweet flower like maybe the smallest drop of honey was added to make it taste better. Lingering finally is the minty coating of toothpaste that makes her mouth feel better by just drinking. The tastes all whirl into one, whirl around her mouth, stick there as ocean eyes bore into hers.

(She will forever associate toothpaste with ocean blue and only half admit to herself why)

She takes forever to drink it, wanting to savour the taste and the feel of sitting at the small table across from Annie, the both of them in mis-matched pyjamas with two overgrown boys dancing around them.

She wants another one in the morning but needs her coffee to start her day and besides, she thinks that maybe it's the girl with the tea she enjoys more than the actual tea.

(She buys a box of the exact same flavour and hides it at the back of her pantry)

(She only brings it out when she's feeling lonely and it wraps its warmth around her like a smoke lover)
