Courage. Wisdom. Power.

Prologue
The Killing Curse, Avada Kedavra, is not always green as people might think. As a spell based on base loathing and hatred, its color instead depends on what the caster hates with all of his or her being. What did Lord Voldemort, the most powerful Dark Lord of the 20th century, hate so much that the color of his curse would be a vibrant emerald green? That which utilizes hope, dispels fear, and calls forth strength. Courage. It was a distasteful word in his mind. Power. That was a word he felt suited for him, a word representing absolute control over existence.
When he went to Godric's Hollow that July in 1980, he could not have anticipated, that by relinquishing her control over her power, Lily Potter's courage and sacrifice would place upon her son the ultimate spell of protection. This spell, fueled by love, reflected the hate and loathing of the curse back upon its caster, severing the soul of the Dark Lord from his body. Unfortunately, she had no idea that he possesed the strongest power in the world, and despite the efforts of her sacrifice, part of the curse would attack her son, leaving behind a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead.
Both of them could not have known, that on that night, a third party involved herself in their struggles. Nor could they have known, that it was through her alone that the Dark Lord Voldemort did not succeed in killing the entirety of the Potter line. Alas there was not more she could do, as she was only a spirit then, soon to be reincarnated into her next life. She gazed upon the helpless body of the Potter babe with sorrow in her eyes. Leaning down she whispered into the wailing child's ears, hoping to bring him some comfort. "I am sorry that I could not save your mother my friend, but I had no idea that we would have to fight him once again." Harry Potter continued to wail, not being able to hear or see the spirit of the woman next to him. Yet she still continued to whisper into his ear, even as a deranged man fought a half-giant for custody of the child, even as he was left upon the doorstep of No. 4 Privet Drive, in the cold of the night, she continued to whisper to him.
"May we be given eternal light to finally put an end to his shadows."
