My first one shot! Hope that you'll like it! I don't own the Othersiders! I totally guessed on Riley's eye color! If someone knows for sure, please tell! Enjoy!
"Stupid flashlight! Work! I tell you WORK!" KC seethed through her teeth. She was on a solo sweep and then her flashlight goes completely out! She already hated solo sweeps and being in the pitch dark did not help. "Worse investigation every!" They were at Camp Alpine and KC was walking one of the trails to get to Cabin 3. In desperation, she threw her flashlight, plopped down, and bawled. "Why does this always happen to me?" She said through her tears.
After a good ten minutes of crying, KC heard someone calling her name. It was faint and she couldn't tell who it was, but soon it became clear that it was Riley. Riley lead investigator, her best friend, and the bravest person she knew.
"KC, KC where are you?" Riley yelled. KC quickly wiped her tears and hoped it wasn't terribly obvious that she was crying.
"I am right here." She yelled back. She heard him running.
"Oh, my god KC! Are you okay? What happened? Are you hurt? Man, I was worried sick!"Riley expressed with worry in his eyes, a look she remembered so well.
"Yeah, I'm okay. My flashlight isn't working. Were you really worried about me?"
"Of course, you're my best friend. Okay let's go back to base camp. Where is your flashlight?"
"Somewhere over there. I threw it because I was mad." She said without emotion.
"I'll go get it, and then we will go back to base camp." He started to run off. KC began to reminisce of when she first met Riley.
Ten Years Ago
"Mommy, do I really havta go?" A six year old KC asked in her mother's car. She was on her way to the first day of kindergarten.
"Yes, you do dear. Besides, I know that you will make so many friends! And you are already friends with Jackie!" Said KC's mother.
"Fine, but I won't be happy!" She crossed her arms and made a pouty face. Her mother laughed. KC's mother dropped her off and waved good bye.
"Have a wonderful day, sweetheart!" KC walked into the building. A kind, elderly woman came over to her.
"Hello, sweetie! What grade are you in?"
"I'm not supposed ta talk ta strangers. My mommy said so."
"Oh, no I'm not a stranger! I work at this school and I am just here to tell you where your class is."
"Oh, okay then! I am KC and I am in kindergarten now!"
"Hello, there KC. I am Mrs. Bar. And you class is right in that room."
"Thank ya, Mrs. Bar!" She headed to the room that Mrs. Bar had pointed to. It was a brightly light with vibrant colors everywhere. The day went on with games and crafts. Before KC knew it, it was time for recess. The monkey bars became her instant favorite thing. She climbed on those things for most of recess. Her friend, Jackie, joining her also. Suddenly KC's arms gave out and she fell to the ground. She was about to cry out, when a little boy came rushing over. He had brown hair that just wouldn't stay strait and green eyes.
"Hey, are you okay?" he held a worried face. She stifled a cry.
"Yeah," she sniffed.
"Cool, I am Riley Litman!" he smiled and she noticed that he was missing his two front teeth. KC smiled back.
"I'm KC,"
"Hello, KC! Can we be best friends now?"
"Yes!"
Present Day
KC smiled remembering that day. They truly had been best friends since then. She then realized that Riley was always there when she fell down, metaphorically or literally. And she hoped he would always be there. When he came back, KC ran to hug him. She simply whispered to him, "Thank you,"
