The Yearly 365 Challenge
Prompt #103 (Word) Identify
"Well can you identify the body?" A cold uninterested male voice spoke in the cold gray room.
Betty looked onto the face of the ginger haired young man that was lying before her. Her breath hitched in her throat as she felt the clasps against her heart tighten even more. Her hands shook at her sides as she stared into the unseeing brown eyes. "N-no it can't be." She whispered as a tear rolled silently down her right cheek.
"Can you identify the body?" The officer spoke as he waited for the woman to say for sure if it was someone she knew or not. He after all had other bodies to look over with other people after all. He didn't have all the time in the world for this woman after all.
"I ca-can't do this." Betty shook her head as she turned and rushed from the room.
"Yes; this is Archie Andrews." Jellybean spoke in the silence of the room. Her eyes on the scarred face of Archie Andrews whom was lying naked and dead on the cold metal table in the morgue. She was glad that her brother was there. It was bad enough that Betty had to see her childhood best friend like this … but it would have simply destroyed Jughead if he had seen Archie like this. It was bad enough that she had to call and tell her brother that Archie was dead. Jellybean would go to her grave glad that at least her brother didn't have to see his brother like this.
"We'll get Mr. Andrews to the funeral home of your chosen." The officer recovered Archie's face.
Jellybean looked at the side of the man's face. "I know that this job is rough man; but you can show compassion to the people whom have lost their loved ones in such a cruel fashion." She wrapped her arms around her chest trying to get warm again. She highly doubted that she would find warmth for a very long time.
The officer stood tall and turned to face the young twenty two year old brunnette woman. "I have been doing this since I was twenty one years old." He sighed. "I don't care much for being around dead bodies … but it's part of the job Miss. Jones. It's also part of the job to make sure that whomoever lies here whom needs to be identified gets identified … because Miss. Jones once that happenes then we can finally start looking back into the murdered person's life and hopefully find the murder." He nodded towards the door. "I do feel for people whom have to come here and go through this. I fully know that my own family may one day have to do this for myself … but if I don't find a way to take a step back and look at these cases as far away from human emotion then I wouldn't be fit to try to protect people through my badge." He shook his head. "I'm sorry that I come off cold and unfeeling. But I have to make sure that Mr. Andrew's murder(s) will get caught."
Jellybean sighed and tried to soften towards the man. "I understand." She turned and walked towards the door. She paused before turning the door knob. Turning her face to look at the man whom was still standing at Archie's table. "Thank you for your time. Thank you for doing your job." She nodded and left.
The officer sighed as he pushed the tray back into the cubby before shutting the door. "At least you will be buried by your loved ones Mr. Andrews." He sighed as he touched the cold door before allowing his hand to drop to his side. His face harden. He had more things to do to bring Archie Andrew's murder(s) to justice. He was bound and determain to not allow this case to be a cold case for long.
