She climbed the stairs slowly not really sure what to expect. It all looked the same, same flooring, same wallpaper but the people all looked different and unfamiliar. She had almost reached the pods when she heard someone calling her name. When she turned she was pleased to see Adam he hadn't changed much since the last time they had met, all those years ago. Harry had of course told her about all the changes to the team since she had left and she had been distraught to hear about Zaf.
As she waited whilst Adam caught up with her she fiddled with the simple gold band she wore on her ring finger. She wondered if the team knew, they must of course have suspected he had found her when he had got them all working on clearing her name but whether they knew the full extent of her and Harry's relationship was another question. She couldn't help but smile to herself as she remembered Zaf's book, boy would he be a rich man now.
Adam greeted her and she was genuinely pleased to see him, they fell into idle chat about how Wes was doing at school, it wasn't until they were almost at the pods that Adam whispered the word congratulations. She felt herself blush and she remembered why she had had to stop seeing Harry in the first place before she left but no this time she had made a vow to stay with him and no amount of idle chatter was going to keep them apart.
Ruth realised that Adam must know everything and that if Harry had confided in anyone it would be him. She smiled at Adam as if to tell him she didn't mind that people knew about her and Harry. Adam enquired after Peter and Ruth smiled and said he was wonderful, obviously taking after his father as he was very bright for his age. Adam pointed out that he probably had his mothers brains as well.
It had been an accident Ruth falling pregnant, at that point she was still dead and living a lie but Harry had insisted that giving the baby up was out of the question. It had happened when they had gone away for the weekend, to Paris of all places as Harry wanted to show her what life could be like if she just let him try to clear her name. By the time Peter was born Ruth was officially cleared but she didn't feel ready to face Thames House again yet which Harry could understand. Instead they bought a house together and she threw herself into motherhood and family life. Section D had been mystified as to why she had not returned to work immediately but did not dare ask Harry. It was Adam who had eventually plucked up the courage to enquire as to Ruth's whereabouts and as it happened Harry was more than happy to finally be able to tell everything to someone.
Eventually when Peter turned one Ruth had felt that maybe it was time to return to Thames House and see what had happened in her absence. Harry was desperate to return, not just so that he could spend more time with her but also because in his view there were no better intelligence analysts around!
