Flowers

Theme #84 Sainfoin/You Confuse Me

Inspired by Flowers by Emilie Simon

Temari was sitting on a bench against the wall almost directly opposite the classroom when Shikamaru walked out.

He frowned when he saw her, then looked up and down the empty corridor before going to stand in front of her, "What are you doing here, Temari?"

She looked up at him, an enigmatic, little smile playing on her lips, "I just wanted to see you."

He raised an eyebrow, instantly suspicious, "Why?"

She reached behind her and pulled a single flower out from behind her back, "I wanted to give you this."

Shikamaru blinked and leaned back slightly, staring at the flower apprehensively. It had a mess of purple blossoms around its long green stalk, "You bought me a flower?" She nodded and he replied instantly, still staring at the flower, "Why?"

She shrugged, "You gave me such a nice bouquet - I just wanted to repay you in kind." When he made no move to take it from her, she frowned and her voice took on the menacing tone that often preceded sudden acts of violence, "Are you going to take it or not?"

Shikamaru hastily reached out and took the flower from her, regarding it as one would a bomb, "Thanks, I guess," he said, finally dragging his eyes from the peculiar flower to the equally perplexing woman in front of him.

She smirked and nodded appreciatively, then rose and started to walk away, swinging her hips slowly and deliberately before throwing a "See you around" over her shoulder.

Shikamaru watched her go, then turned and re-entered his classroom, shaking his head absently while wondering what in the world to do with the flower she'd given him. He sighed as he took his seat at the head of the classroom, 'Well, nobody ever said Temari was conventional.'

A/N: This can be considered a sequel to Daisies. Written as usual during Spanish class - I really shouldn't even be advertising that. Will try to pay more attention then.
