Remus knew it was foolish to ever believe they could make this work. He knew that they weren't meant to be; that the only road ahead was heartache and betrayal.

Severus knew it was foolish to ever believe he could make this work. He didn't care if they were meant to be; he knew the only road ahead was littered with dirty needles and cheap spirits.

Remus sat against the door, knees drawn to his chest and a constellation of tears on his lashes.

They had seen stars...

Severus slumped into the couch, eyes drooping shut while paradise consumed him.

They might not have been the same stars...

Their faults had drawn them close together and their flaws had sewn them the weakest safety net. The stars they saw...maybe they weren't even in the same fucking constellation...but they saw stars.
